Case in point. Me!

I was never an athlete in my younger years - never won a trophy, placed on the podium, etc., but this past weekend that 56 year streak ended.

I put a team together for a 400 (officially 381 miles) mile bike race, and we finished first... there were only two teams of 4 - so don't get TOO excited, but we finished before everyone else (there were a bunch of solo racers as well) and set a new course record of 19h 23m.

Me in full "Aero" mode - 6am just after starting...

Still going strong later in the day:

Started at 5am Saturday morning, finished at 12:30am Sunday morning:

Getting our finisher's medals - 2nd finisher came in over 90 minutes after us...

I should'a shaved the legs - we would have finished a few minutes faster according to the latest wind-tunnel experiments!

Here's another with our support vehicle right behind me :)  Before 7a and after 7p you need a follow vehicle behind you to protect you from senile, drunk drivers who are texting while drinking a slurpy.

The photo is a little blurry - not the photographer's fault - it was 96% humidity at 6am...

I agree with you 100%. It is NEVER too late to get started. Way to go on your first place, that is AWESOME!!!!! I started running 2 years ago at the age of 47, and I'm now in training for my second marathon coming up in October. I have 4 grandchildren and they all love the fact that grandpa is a marathon runner. Keep doing what you love to do!!!!

Mentally, I find it a lot easier to "train" for events than to "exercise."

Keep kickin' it grandpa!
