Normal?

I am day five of the liquid pre op diet.  All is going well. I am getting in my protein and my liquids and am not super hungry.  But my legs feel a littel sore.  Like muscle soreness almost like I ran on the treadmill, but I did not. I have a call in to my doctor just to check but it is a little like my muscles just feel weak.  Anyone else experience this during the pre op process?  Thank you!

I had a little bit of 'weakness' (if you want to call it that) for a few days around days 4-7 on the prescription liquid shake diet (Optifast) that I had to do for three weeks before surgery.

It quickly resolved itself. I do hear a few others on our local forum say the same thing though. Whatever it does is only temporary and we are usually back up to snuff by day 7 at the very latest.

It certainly couldn't hurt to check it out though.

Not one single regret. NO WAY.

My only regret (if you want to call it such) is that this surgery wasn't discussed with me or made available to me when I was 33 rather than 43!!

I'm on Optifast too, for 4 weeks, currently over half way through it. I was doing okay at first, but the after taste is getting really terrible. Did you experience that, or do anything to counteract it?

Oh Sammy YES! I never, EVER drank straight Optifast! Yuck! The stuff is terrible!

A few things that we are told to do in our centre:

  1. Add LOTS of ice. Like a cup worth of it! And water too!
  2. If you find the smell terrible (and many do), drink from a closed cup with a straw.
  3. Create your own Opti recipes. Some of the favourites here are:
    (a) add instant coffee to make an iced coffee with it
    (b) add extracts such as banana, coconut, orange, etc. These are no calorie and add lots of pizzaz to your shake!
    (c) add Sugar Free Syrups, like DaVinci, Torani, etc. I had a caramel and a raspberry one. I LOVED them both!
    (d) add flavourings like Crystal Lite; apparently these are great
  4. In my city, we have a requirement to do Opti for 3+ weeks prior to the surgery. As such, lots of us have experimented with recipes and we have an Opti Recipe Thread. I can copy some recipes if you like for you to try on your own. Just let me know.

I hope this helps you. Wishing you luck as you get through the next two weeks! Hang tough!
