Hi everyone!

I just had my consult today with Dr Broussard in Edmond, OK.  Everything is going well enough, except I found out that I have to lose 10% of my body weight before I can schedule a pre-op visit.  Until then I have to go to the clinic once a month and see the exercise physiologist, nutritionist, and the Dr.  I of course have to have my psych visit done too and all those appointments are scheduled in a months time.

My question is...  I have to lose 31.7 pounds before I can schedule a pre-op visit.  Surgery can be scheduled 2 weeks out from there, I need to have this figured out because I have to get off work months in advance.

How would you go about losing 31.7 pounds in the quickest way possible?  I would like to hopefully do this in May because once it turns June I may not be able to get a week off wor****il September.

What pre-op diets worked for you?

In the 2.5 months pre-op last year, I started swapping breakfast and lunch for a protein shake.  That worked well for my weight loss.

Thank you!  This morning I had a sugar free carnation instant breakfast shake with an extra scoop of protein powder (Beneprotein), and I will have another for lunch. I have drank 64 oz of water and Crystal Light so far today  I am hoping with mainly liquids and protein, (I have a chicken roasting for tonight) I can get this accomplished.

I also had 1 protein shake for breakfast, which kept me pretty full until lunch. I also cut out all carbs prior to surgery. This also allowed me to break away from craving cars after surgery. I ate alot of fish, chicken and vegetables. Good luck, you can do it!

Thank you!  I sure hope so.  I was all gung ho this morning, but right now, I am just thinking how long it is going to take me.. and how daunting HAVING to lose 30 pounds feels. ..

So is the 10% loss an insurance requirement or is that your doctors requirement?  If its insurance not much you can do but if its your doctor you could look for someone else to do it that might meet your schedule.

The time spent losing the 10% could be a good thing giving you time to develop some new strategies for the changes we all have to make.  Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks!

The 10% is a doctor requirement.  My insurance has a strict "no bariatric" clause.  I have thought about looking into another surgeon, but money is really tight as it is, and he has the lowest cash price around.  Also very good infection/complication rates.

I guess I need to bite the bullet and do it, but man, I feel overwhelmed right now.

Try to think about the reason why you are doing this. Months from now you'll be looking back and saying "wow, this was all worth it!" Hang-in-there!

With cutting out carbs you may be surprised how quickly it goes. It already sounds like you're off to a good start. Why not just try it for two weeks and see whe you are? I wouldn't be surprised if you're down the 10% by May.

:-)  This is exactly what my husband said.. "you can do anything for two weeks"..   I know he is right, and so are you!

I think I am going to like this site for motivation when I need it!  It is nice "speaking" to people who understand.
