I had RNY, and with a big pre-op weight loss, I actually started losing my hair before surgery. Now at 5 mos out I've lost probably half of it, but the loss is slowing down. A friend had VSG last December and lost about the same amount. My husband, who has crazy thick hair and will never need to go near a bottle of Rogaine in his life, had VSG in May and hasn't lost any at all. Life isn't fair.

If you're getting your vitamins and protein, you're doing all you can do. All we can do now is wait for it to be over. Personally I'm trying to look on the bright side by enjoying only having to wa**** half as often and not having nearly as many split ends or flyaways to deal with, haha.

My hair started falling around at about the 4-month mark, and slowed down around month 8 or 9.

I have a lot of hair, though it's very fine, and I wore it in a pixie cut. I had a few patches that were fairly thin and I used eyeshadow and hair fibers to disguise things, but if I had to guess I'd say maybe 10 - 15%?

I lost about 50% of my hair. It started falling out heavy during Week 5 and 8 and kept up for awhile after that. It took me a long time to grow it back but I also had fine, thinning hair to begin with.

You may want to try cutting a few inches off if the loss gets too heavy. Shorter hair looks fuller and bouncier and covers.

Mine started falling out about four to fives months after. I chopped mine off and I love my short hair. I'll be a year out next week and I'm no longer losing hair, but I have a ton of new growth!

I started losing hair before surgery due to major weight loss leading up to the surgery. I'm now 6 months out and am still losing. It has started to slown down over the past two weeks but still coming out. My doc says usually by month 8 or 9 you stop that phase. I'm already seeing new growth. I chopped mine off into a cute cut about 2 months ago and am obsessed with how cute the style is. I also don't notice the drastic shedding as much with the shorter hair.
