All liquids count, even the liquid in protein shakes. Crystal light or Mio added to water can sometimes help me to take in more water. And I take in more when I use a straw, some people can't use a straw, but it never bothers me..You might want to try it if you haven't already.

You should not use a straw. They allow extra air into your stomach making it feel full when you should be filling it with as much fluid as possible.

My NUT told me the straw is ok if you don't have any symptoms. It works fine for some.

Constantly sip. I found what works for me is that I know I can tolerate two swallows, then I have to wait. So, I grab a bottle water and work my way through it. 4.5 weeks out I can drink a 16.9oz bottle in maybe 10 minutes that way?

Also, look for stuff to cut the water. I personally love the Mio Fit products. Can get on Amazon or the grocery store in the water aisle (at least, thats how Publix is for me). It has electrolytes and flavoring with no calories, sugar or caffeine. Theres a bunch of flavors... lemon-lime (my favorite), berry blast, a grape I think... Water is crucial, but so are electrolytes.

Smar****er... powerade zero... Broth (due to sodium)

Electrolytes are potassium + sodium, as far as the most common kinds.

Liquid from jello, popsicles, soup, protein shakes, etc all count toward our water intake according to what seems like everyones surgery. I personally only count semi-clear liquids as my water, everything else I do not count. Thats just how I prefer to do it, because I personally think 64oz is not enough. I always try to drink half my body weight in ounces. Currently, thats ~130oz of water a day

Some programs hold that caffeinated drinks don't count due to the diuretic effect of the caffeine being counter to your hydration goals, while others make no mention of it. Somewhat like the carb thing where some are real gaga over minimizing them while others that are just as successful make no big deal about them. It's something to look into if one is marginal in hydration needs and test it out to see if it makes a difference.

Also, the basic 64oz motherhood-and-apple-pie number is generally held to be a minimum, and other conditions, such as hot, humid summer weather or dry winter weather, along with activity levels can boost the requirement.
