5 years out and having terrible epigastric pain, can not tolerate many foods and I am living on...
Hi all, I haven't been on the sight for a while, but hope tha I can get some suggestions from some of the folks here. Since I had the surgery I have never been able to tolerate eating much of anything. Mainly soup and occationally I have luck with soft meat with sauces, no problems with soft veggies or cheese, but I can usually only eat about 1/2 cup of food at the most t a time. Foods I can easily eat are crackers of any kind. I still (5x/week) have the pain where food won't go down and froth comes up so I wait for about 20 mins in excrutiating pain.
More recently, I have been getting a terrible eprigastic pain that comes on with no regularity and I can't figure out what precipitates it. There is a new bariatric surgeon in my city, and although I have been referred have not heard from the office. Multiple ER visits (basically for symptom control) and tests and I have no answers. it is affecting my life to the point I am afraid to eat during the work week in case I have problems and have to call in sick.
Can anyone bring my thinking back to square one so I can narrow it down a bit more? I am hoping to come up with reasonable suggestions for my gp while I wait for the bariatric surgeons office to cal.
Thanks in advance!
Do you take Prilosec, or eat tums? Maybe you have developed GERD. try taking them and see if it helps. It may give you a clue either way. I have been having pain on and off and the surgeon has me doubling up on Prilosec and eating Tums. It did help. He felt I might have some irritation starting and cutting down on the acid would help it heal.

Yes at my last drs appointment she gave me a prescription for Prilosec, and I have been using tums...I wake up a couple times a night with burning if I forget. thank you for that though. I have to hang on until someone here can figure it out. I have an appointment with my GP in Jan, and the general surgeon that did my upper gi scope cancelled my Dec 18th appointment until Feb 3, so frustrating. But I will keep up with the Prilosec tc, thanks:)
IT can be so many things... Starting with ulcers, stricture, beozars, then GB, or stones in bile duct, or twisted intestines with our without hernia, adhesions.
Or much simpler, just constipation (even if you have BM daily - i've been there).
Food intolerance, or allergies, SIBO that can cause gas and inflammation and pain. IBS-C,.....and many many more issues...
The list can go on and on....
Seeing a doc can help eliminate some if not most of them.

I second a PPi of some kind might help. As well as digestive enzymes and probiotic in case your stomach flora has gone wacky.
How do beans and lentils work for you if you can't eat meats? And I can only eat 1/2 cup at a time so that isn't too shocking I don't think. If you wake up with burning then you should have a scope w/biopsy done to see what's going on.
Hope you get to the bottom of things soon and feel better!

Thank you all. I am glad I connected here. it makes me feel a bit better to know I have "brothers in arms" so to speak. I have had a upper gi, upper and lower barrium swallow study, CT scan. The surgeon who did my scope cancelled my appointment for last Tuesday and rebooked for Feb ugh!! He did take a biopsy with the scope...
Again, thank you all for your suggestions, and to know others are and have gone through this, and have found a way to cope is very heartening:)
