Trip to ER

my surgery was August 9, 2016.  I am on soft foods and thought all fish was ok at this point so I had Salmon Saturday night at Olive Garden.  BIG NO NO.

I woke up Sunday with a lot of chest pressure, keep in mind that I am a cardiac patient, so I gave it a while and it just got worse.  Around 2:30 I told my husband we needed to go to the ER.  They did an EKG and everything looked good, did blood work, heart enzymes were ok and other blood work was good.  By now I am in really bad pain, they give my morphine and it doesn't help, they do a cat scan and everything in my belly looks ok but the pressure is building and the pain is worse so they give me dilaudid and to start with that doesn't help.  Then I get the urge to throw up but nothing comes up......then the pressure starts to lessen.   Seems the salmon got stuck in my pouch and I need to avoid it a bit longer.  Not sure I will ever eat it again....

Did you chew it up almost to a puree? Was there a sweet glaze on it? or did you eat something else with it?

I took really small bites and chewed really well.  It didn't have a sweet glaze but it did have a butter sauce which I tried to avoid.  I had some well smashed potatoes.  Only ate a couple of tablespoons of the salmon and a couple of tablespoons of the potatoes.  Ate really slowly

stuck food is one of the worst feelings ever.  I'm glad that it was only stuck food.  It sucks you had to go through this, but at least you know what it feels like and that is a big deterrent to eating things too fast or not chewing well enough.

at about 10 days after surgery I had the go ahead for soft foods, whi*****luded ground meats. I thought turkey meatballs would be okay.  Well, I ended up in the ER thinking I had ripped my pouch open.  Turns out that I hadn't done permanent damage, just irritated it really badly and I had to go back to liquids for a few days to let it calm down.  That helped to make me watch very closely what I was able to eat.

I have trouble with salmon too, it's currently on my "no fly" zone. I've tried it three different times with the same puking afterwards each time. I'm hoping eventually I will be able to eat it, is pretty high protein. Good luck!

Ugh, I threw up salmon last night! I usually do OK with it, but after last night I don't think I will be eating it for a while.

I am going to start this off by each plan is different!  I am not judging you. I am not judging your plan, NUT or surgeon.

At the stage you are at now, the most solid things I could have was canned tuna and egg salad/egg whites.

Again, no judgement, most white fish is flakey meat. Salmon's meat is so much more dense. But I can see why you thought that. NOt like you were going to gnaw on a grizzly round steak or something..

When you get food stuck, it usually hits you right away. I can't recall someone waking up hours later with a problem from something being stuck.

3 weeks is probably way too early to be attempting something like salmon, especially from a restaurant. You might want to progress a little slower.

You are thinking it is the salmon, but it very well may have been the potatoes. Usually you know right away when food is stuck. This early out I would stay away from any starchy carbs even if they have it on your list... protein is way more important.
