Hi all!

I posted this in the general forum and several people recommended that I ask everyone in the RNY group so I'm going to copy and paste my original below. Any info, help, suggestions would be great! ð?'?

ok, guys.. I'm feeling super lost right now. I'm 6 weeks post op (rny) and I feel like my doctor gave me absolutely no information or tools for success. I've talked to several people and they've all said that their doctors or bariatric centers gave them binders with all the details and to do's/don't do's but I'm completely clueless about what I'm supposed to be doing and things that I should know already to be successful. All the little details about how you should start working out as soon as you're able and how you lose the most weight in the first 6 months etc. I was completely unaware of any of these things. Can somebody please please please give me any information or tips so that I can feel a little more clued in and regain a little bit of my confidence in this whole process/life change? Feeling so hopeless and lost and it really sucks! Any info is truly appreciated :)

  1. Weigh and measure your food
  2. Track your food
  3. Strive for at least 60 grams of protein daily
  4. Drink 64 oz of water daily
  5. Get exercise daily

How much is it supposed to weigh? I wasn't even told that much :(

early out, only a couple of ounces.

I'm 8 months out, and I measure out 2.5-3 ounces of meat, and then I measure out veggies to make it to 4 ounces. I can't always eat that.

You'll find some foods go down easier than others, for sure.

Some of my problem foods...

pouch tuna

white meat chicken

drier pork

You'll find that crappy for you foods (those starchy, carby foods) are easier to pass through our pouches... that's why so many can gain weight back. The sooner you cut those out (as completely as you can, and really, none at all for the first 6 months if you can), the better you will be.

Follow everything White DOve said.  My center didn't give me a binder either.  I only received one sheet of paper telling me the foods to eat.  I measure out two ounces of meat because that's all I can hold.  If I eat vegetables, which is very rare, I will only have one or two spoonfuls.  Most people, including myself, try to follow a low carb plan.  This helps keep us full and your body doesn't need carbs.  I am 10 months out.  I eat three meals and one snack.  For snack I will eat string cheese, or a meat roll up.  Try to look at the menu board also.  You can get a ton of information from there.  This is what has worked for me.

*and before anybody says anything about the carbs, I said most people

So just two ounces of meat, no veggies? Or two ounces total?

I weigh out two ounces of meat.  If I have room I will only eat a spoonful or two of veggies which is hardly never.

So when are we supposed to get veggies in? I only do protein shakes during the day because I can't find time for anything else when I'm working. Does the meat have to be weighed raw or cooked?

If two ounces is too much just eat part of it.  I am at nine years and eat 3-4 ounces of dense protein at a meal.
