11 days post Sleeve - diarrhea for the last 9 days - common?

Hi everyone. I am 11 days post sleeve and feeling very good except for the diarrhea I have been experiencing.  I have been having shakes without artificial sweeteners and broth with beneprotein. I am fine until I ingest something then within 1 hour, I have to go.  Has anyone else experienced this?  My doctor ran a test for a bacterial infection and there is done and told me to take Imodium, but I hate taking medicine.

It's not uncommon to have the issue of "liquid in, liquid out."  Are you on liquids only still?  What worked for me was adding benefiber to my shakes - have you given that a try?

Yes, I am still on liquids.  Benefiber is a laxative, no? I would think Benefiber would make any possibility of a solid stool looser. Obviously by my question, I have not tried it. Haha. Thanks for the reply.

Benefiber is soluble fiber which helps to firm things up.  Insoluble fiber is what acts as a laxative.

My sleeve was done on the 8th so I'm 12 days out and I have the same thing....  I actually had to go back in for a few days it was so bad that I dehydrated ... keep drinking as Gwen said liquid in liquid out....   my Dr also took all the tests also and everything was negative... he took another chest xray and cat  scan to see if I had any leaks and thank God I didn't but the contrast was still sitting there, my body wanted to hold it for a bit... That can also cause the diarrhea ... it's getting better now... so I'm sure the more solid  food we get to eat the better it will get ... we can hang in there together!!!!

Congrats on your new sleeve !!!!

You'll run into issues of diarrhea/constipation for awhile until your system swings into its new normal.  Take the immodium.  Take the fiber.  The last thing you need right now is hemorrhoids or an anal fissure.

Oh yes, I had it every day of my liquid diet and still 5 weeks out deal with it when I introduce something new.

I do this every time I have surgery.  WLS and the liquid diet just made it worse.  I was on liquids for 3 weeks postop, sooo...

It gets better. Try the Benefiber. If that doesn't work, try the Immodium. This won't last forever. Once you start eating you'll be constipated.

To be blunt, as I have heard this from another patient on here before I had my surgery, "Never trust a Fart!" literally. LOL
