What is your workout routine?

I know there are tons of proteins and opinions out there, but this has never been my strong suit. I am starting to pick up my workouts, and I know I need to eat/drink something before I go to the gym. What is the best way? Drink protein before or after? Do y'all use pre-workouts? What brand is the best? Any help would be appreciated! thanks

My NUT says to eat a small piece if fruit pre-workout if necessary. So far, I haven't found it to be necessary. I have a regular protein shake before or after my workout, depending on the time of day and duration of the workout.

that's nice, but I think the question was what did you do IN the workout.

I think I answered that, but in case I was unclear:

pre workout - nothing

post workout - my protein shake for the day

I do not add anything additional to my diet when I workout.

I think in my uneducated opinion a lot of the answers depends on your specifics... what type of workout, intensity, blood sugar levels going into it, etc.  Here are the general guidelines I go by.

- make sure my hydration level is good going into it

- no carbs or prework out food unless my blood sugar was low (an issue earlier out, not now)

-post work out if it was intense enough to trigger soreness, a protein shake + lots of fluids to rehydrate.

- my blood pressure can go low, so part of the fluid regiment is Powerade Zero- helps keep the electrolytes balanced.

Great job working the exercise route! Research shows that those that exercise are more succusful in maintenance! It also helped me a ton with staying away from food during the weight loss phase and in general boost my confidence.

Right now all I do is run or walk.  So I don't really switch up my intake to accomodate.  Next month, we're joining a gym and I'll have 2 sessions w/ a personal trainer to work on some strength training.  I'm not sure if I'll change anything at that point or not.  I guess I'll sort of see what my body tells me.  I think it's awesome that you're working this out early!
