How long till I feel "normal"?

This is probably an impossible question to answer, but how long did it take you to feel "normal" after surgery. I'll be two weeks out tomorrow and still feel weird. Not horrible, but a little gassy and a kind of low grade nausea. Just not right. I know I'm not fully healed yet but I hope this feeling isn't permanent!

Another weird thing - I'm on full liquids and have caught myself TWICE putting things in my mouth to clean them off before they go in the dishwasher. I heated up some chili for my daughter and licked the spoon before I realized what I was doing. And a few days ago I was serving some spinach and a piece dropped on the counter. It wasn't until it was IN my mouth that I realized something was wrong. Just goes to show how much mindless eating I was doing!

I really didn't start feeling "normal" until I was eating real food again. So about 4 weeks post-op. I felt okay to varying degrees before that, but normality definitely took real food that I could chew and stuff.

I'm right with you on the Mindless eating.  I've done all those things!  Sometimes I worry that I got more than an ounce of protein from just tasting while cooking!

In terms of Normal.  there are so many levels to normal, it makes it hard to answer.  Physically, I felt healthy again in 5 days.  But in terms of my new tummy and a sense of normal eating - that took months - it wasn't until about 6 months out when I finally had the capacity to eat both my protein and a veggie that I felt any normalcy.  I can say that by 1 year, I was feeling great - healthy, content with my new eating habits, and generally back to normal.

It does keep getting better, slowly but surely.  And you will love the weight loss part.  This WLS really works!

best wishes,

Carol

I'm with the others - I was back to doing normal stuff the week after surgery but it took 3-4 weeks before I felt like I was 100% again.

I had surgery on 5/26 and it took a good month to 6 weeks for me to be back to normal. I slept with 2 pillows and on my bac****il 6 weeks min ( I'm a stomach sleeper). Never got sick but really stuck to liguids and then soft foods which I still prefer. I live on Premier Protein drinks and bars. Getting in all my liquids is still a chore but everyday you feel better. I'm older (54) so expected not to bounce right back. I have lost 43 lbs so that in itself make me feel stronger.

At my 3 week follow up appointment I noted how tired I was in the afternoon and he took me off my blood pressure meds and I felt so much more normal!

Yup, I was always eating mindlessly and have to really be on top of myself now to prevent it!

I had my surgery 7/8 and starting to feel much better. I had a burning pain that the Dr said was normal and I may have bouts of it off and on. Last week was my 1st week to see my surgeon post op and had lost 20 lbs..I think I went into shock..lol...I go back this afternoon to see him and will be put on pureed foods..I can't wait! I made a banana pudding for my family the other day and after putting cool whip on top, I found the spoon in my mouth! I am going to have to pay attention also, but it sure was good!
