Need help

I had my gall bladder removed in September and a hysterectomy in January.  I have gained 15lbs with each surgery.  I've recently changed jobs due to complications with my health and weight lifting restrictions.  For the last couple weeks I have tried really hard to limit what I'm eating and stay on track with my protein intake. Unfortunately the more I do the more I seem to gain. I'm getting really frustrated. I have been eating an egg and two pieces of sausage for breakfast.  A protein bar or shake for mid morning.  Atkins or similar meal for lunch. And a small plate of what ever dinner is. Mostly healthy stuff.  I occasionally snack on a hand full of peanuts or a piece of fruit in the afternoon between lunch and dinner.  I've been making sure I limit my carbs and get in all my protein.  What more can I do? the weight isn't going anywhere but up.  Its 110+ degrees outside so going for a walk is not an option at this time nor is going into the garage gym.

I cannot help with the surgery side but I will relay the warnings I got from my surgeon.  His office recommends 3 meals a day and no snacks.   The anecdoctal stories he relayed is that most patients *****gress have allowed caloric snacks to get back into their diet.  He said if it has calories, do not eat it between meals.  I know that it is easier said than done.

My NUT told me 5-6 meals per day (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner-optional snack). All meals and snacks should be healthy. She also said to get in at least a gallon of water, 3 servings of veggies, 2 servings of fruit per day. Everything else should be protein and minimal carbs. She said to eat the protein first and the rest of your meal second. I usually eat lite cheese stick or lite ff Greek yogurt for my snacks.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck to you.

It's unclear to me whether or not you have had VSG surgery or not. If so, are you keeping a log of your food somewhere? It's really easy to underestimate what one is eating without that tool (sometimes even with it :). It sounds to me as though you are eating far more than the 600-800 calories a day that WLS patients are typically supposed to eat during their weight-loss phase. Additionally, WLS patients are expected to exercise 4-6 times per week, and if you're not finding it convenient to do that, you might need to deal with some inconvenience in order to see the scale move in the direction you'd prefer.

I know it's not easy, but that's just the way it is. It sounds like you're going to have to bite the bullet and do what you need to do.

You have said that you are getting all of your protein.  What is that goal?  You may have better luck if you are striving for 80-100 grams of protein per day.  If you are not getting that in then you should not be eating anything else.  Make sure you are getting plenty of non calorie fluids in.  If you are dehydrated then your body will retain fluids.  Different school of thought on exercise ----I know I would do better if I was exercising but I have lost almost all of my weight by my diet alone and maintained that loss.  I am more active because I can be but I am not in any kind of formal exercise routine.  Just remember if you do get into an exercise program then your calorie intake might go up but remember that if you decrease your exercise then you will need to decrease your calorie intake.  That is not always easy to do.
