Are there any tips or tricks to prevent LARGE amounts of post op hair loss? I know to expect some but with thin hair already I don't want to go bald!

Nope.  If it's going to happen, it's going to happen.

Unfortunately, The hair loss is a result of the trauma of surgery.  If its going to happen, its going to happen.  But the good news is that it is temporary.

I had to use a foam that gave my hair extra body from about 6 months to a year.  I would blow dry it and poof it up to cover my scalp. By one year post surgery, it was back to normal.

I was careful to meet my protein goals, and took keratin- (sp???) but I don't think it helped much.

best wishes,

Carol

I'm also nervous about this so I've been taking biotin.  It's not a proven way to prevent hair loss but I figure it can't hurt.

I also thought about starting those vitamins before surgery. My hair is really dark so my scalp will show big time. ..

The biotin will make the new hair good and healthy, but it won't stop it from pushing out the old hair.  If anything, it will make it better equipped to emerge.

My surgeon says what everyone say If it going to happen it's going to happen ... but to help it make sure you get all your protien in  and i also take biotin everyday.... I'm 4.5 months out ... so far it's just a bit here or there but it's better then tons.... good luck!! ( I'd rather have a bit less hair for a while then be a size 18 again :-)

True that Kelly.  I rather be skinny and heavy than worry about my hair but trust me I am worried big time

You and me both jenn.... that's why I do everything to get in all the protien .. I also take the biotin every day and I try not to wash my hair everyday .. but I have thin hair to begin with so it's hard cause by day 2 it's getting greasy ...I also try to massage my scalp very gently everyday.... and when brushing my hair I go very easy lol.... none of this helps me I'm sure but at least it makes me feel like I'm doing everything I can!!! :-)    lol

I have been taking biotin, hairinfinty, and Futurebiotics Super Silica Complex, Veg-Tablets everyday and prayer that it doesn't thin. My mom had rny about 10 yrs ago, she didn't lose any so I pray that I am the same way. I need my color touched up but am soooo scared of doing it. I am 4 months post op I might wait until I am 5 or 6 months post op b4 coloring it again.
