I had my surgery on the 12th and still can't bring myself to eat. Also when I drink water I can only take 3 sips then I want to throw up. .is this normal?

I had my surgery on the 6th. I am just starting to think I'm hungry, but I think it is more head hunger than real hunger. I didn't want anything for about a week after surgery. It was hard to get my fluids in at all let alone protein. I still can't drink plain water. I can drink crystal light and other things but not plain water. It comes right back up. :/ I also do best if my crystal light is room temp, but I can crunch on ice chips... :) good luck, you'll feel a little more "normal" every day. :)

Just do liquids a little longer.  You DO need to drink, though.  64oz is your goal starting NOW.  You feel nauseous because you're dehydrated, most likely.  Another possiblity could be the need for a PPI, but know that it will only get worse if you don't get that 64oz.

CG, I have surgery coming up on the 25th and this is one of the things I am very worried about. I have been told that your tastes change and right now, I love water, I drink 8 to 10 glasses per day with ease. I fear that after surgery water will make me feel sick and that will just be tragic. I hope things get better for really soon. Keep trying it can only get better.

The bariatric dietitian in my doctors office told me the more water I drink now, the more I will be able to drink after surgery. That I'll be able to take in half what I get in now. I have no idea if that truly works or not though  lol

The nausea is likely due to dehydration.  So really work on getting in your liquids.  That's your job right now - hydration.  Try different liquids at different temperatures.  Some people have better with hot things, or warm drinks.  Some people do better with Crystal Light than water.  But, seriously, treat recovery like your full time job right now, since it is.  You need to find a way to get your liquids in.  Then work on getting your protein in.  But if you keep yourself dehydrated, you'll end up back in the hospital.

My Surgery was also on Nov 12 and although i am getting really close to 64 ozs of water in...i am really lacking in the protein area..yesterday it took me all day to drink 3/4 of a protein shake. today it took me about five hours to have half a cup of cream of wheat , I added carnation dry milk and half a cup of skim milk for extra protein. I just made a protein shake...i will see how much of it I can get down.  I just really Sip sip sip all day long.

My surgery was on the 11th and I have also been having a horrible time. I ended up trying some healthy recipe cream of chicken soup from Campbell's today and it really made a difference. For the first time I was actually able to swallow something and it tasted good and it really seem to make me feel better afterwards. I didn't eat that much of it but I did have some more later on.

I also tried some tea later and that seemed to go down pretty well also. I am just Bigelow's constant comment but I think any herbal decaf tea would feel equally as good. I think the warm liquid went down better for me and I had tried liquids at varying temperatures from Luke warm to cold.

I'm not getting all the liquid or protein in yet but it's a start this afternoon to feeling a little better than I have and having a little more energy instead of feeling nauseous and lethargic.

I really hope you find something that makes you feel good and can help you turn a corner as well.

I thought I was going into this really prepared having read everyone's posts and listening to all the nutritionist information and it's definitely much harder to actually implement than I thought it would be.

Same prayers for everyone!
