Purees for two weeks or four?

So I met with my surgeon (who is great -- the best in the State, so he knows what he's doing and has been doing it a long time), and he moved me from liquids to purees today (two weeks and a day after surgery). He said to stay on purees for two weeks and then transition to food.  My materials from the life skills class say I should be on purees for four weeks.  I told him about the discrepancy and he thought for a minute but then said, no, two weeks is fine.  Two weeks.  Of course two weeks is Thanksgiving so I'm like whoohoo (not that I will be a pig but it will be nice to slip under the family radar by not pureeing food in front of people).

Anyway, were you on purees for two or four weeks? I had extensive scar tissue from a prior band and abdominal surgery so I don't want to spring a leak.  Thanks!

I was on soft foods for 6 weeks before I got to start regular food.  You're lucky if you don't have to do it that long.

Does you doctor's office have a nutritionist?  If so, call him/her, as they will know more about when to start and end purees.  My doctor does good surgery, but really doesn't know much about nutrition.

I was on full liquids for 2 weeks, then puree "baby food" for 2 weeks. Now I am on soft foods until the Tuesday before thanksgiving. After that I am at week 7 and on normal food for life... I think every doctor/nutritionist has their own plan. Because I have heard lots of people talk of other stages and time frames for each. I would listen to your doctor and nutritionist. Best wishes!

Two weeks of liquids, two weeks of pureed/soft foods, then start introducing solid foods.  Every surgeon seems to have a different method to this madness.

I was on 3 weeks of liquids and will be on 3 weeks of "soft" foods before I can move on to regular food.  I just started my soft food stage yesterday, so I'm 3 weeks and 1 day post surgery.  Plus I only had 2 days of liquid diet before surgery and I have read that some people had 2 or 3 weeks.  Lots of different plans among the doctors.  I've been following my plan very religiously, as I really trust my doctor.

I had 2 weeks liquid pre-op (small solids allowed in soups, 1 day clear liquids post-op, and 3 weeks liquid/pureed post-op, I go to soft solids Monday.  (cottage cheese, canned tuna, canned chicken, low fat cheese, beans, low fat chili, etc.)  I'm soooo excited!

I was on liquids for 2 weeks and puree for 2 weeks and during Christmas! I thought I'd have some meatballs and gravy in a blender. NOPE, it tasted nasty! I went back to liquids for another 2 weeks. I went out and bought my favorite Progresso soup and just put them in a blender. Food never tasted so good. I couldn't handle puree. I gradually moved into soft foods after 2 weeks. I stayed on soft foods for at least 3 months. I was overly cautious.

My instructions were after surgery, 2 weeks liquids, then 2 weeks pureed food, 4 weeks soft food, then on week 9, it goes to solid food.
