My surgery date is Dec 4. I start 2 week protein shakes (liver diet) on Nov 19. I do get to have a small Thanksgiving meal.

I am curious to how you have handled having to provide meals to family while you are on all liquids. I see this as a difficult part of this process. I have already told husband to be prepared to fend for himself for a while LOL

I just made meals as usual and sat with the family and drank  my liquid meal with them.  Sometimes it was hard, but if you get yourself in the right mindset, it's okay.

When I was on liquids, that's what I did - I told my partners to fend for themselves.  I had stocked the freezer pretty well beforehand.  You know how you can double recipes and put half in the freezer for later?  I did that a lot in the month before liquids.  It worked out well, I think they only needed to get food out a few times during those 24 days of liquids.  Not too shabby!

I started cooking again when I hit pureed foods.  That was a happy, happy day.  I had missed cooking quite a bit.  And the whole "eating dinner with my family at the table" thing.

I enjoyed cooking and I still enjoy cooking. I made meals for my family and made my shakes and my meals that were appropriate for me during whatever stage I was in.

I cooked for my family what I intended to eat myself.  The biggest change for them was instead of rice or noodles, I would add a second veggie to the plate with their meat. They got their rice and pasta as a special treat when they were out somewhere.

You did your family a favor as well as yourself by preparing healthier foods for them. Good thinking!
