stall after 12 months

Hello, I have been at a stall in weight for about 2 months now.  I'm at the 12 month mark on the surgery.  I was told you could possibly lose the most weight the first 18 months.  My question is has anyone else had a 2 to 3 month stall and started back losing weight, or is the honeymoon over?  Please help me out.

The further we get out, the more we can eat. Measure your portions and make sure you are tracking every bite. Even a little more each day adds up.

Two or three months without losing means you are eating enough to maintain.  The only way to lose more is to eat less calories.  I cut calories at 18 months and dropped another 14 pounds after months of no loss.

Are you close to your goal weight?  After two months it might not be a stall but rather you are eating at maintenance level.

You might need need to jump start weight loss by getting hardcore on calorie counting.

Good luck!!!

I really don't believe in the honeymoon phase stuff.  You will lose weight as long as you're eating fewer calories than your body needs.  As you lose weight, your body needs fewer calories to maintain the lower weight.  If there is a honeymoon, it relates more to your state of mind and dedication than anything else involved.

You will lose weight if you eat fewer calories than your body needs.  Period.  If you aren't now, start tracking everything you put into your mouth, this will let you see what your intake is and what you need to adjust.

Gwen, my take is that there is a honeymoon with RNY.  That is the period of malabsorption when you lose weight no matter what you eat.  With VSG, it depends on calories from day one.

Yes, I definitely think there's a case to be made for honeymoon with RNY due to the end of malabsorption.

My surgeon is pretty insistent that the malabsorption of calories with RNY is way overblown, and what little there is, starts to disappear from day one. He's studied it a lot more than I have.

I think the much bigger issue for all of us is the honeymoon period inside our heads. We can only go so long, watching every bite, concentrating, focusing on diets, exercise, weightloss. When we start to lose focus and drift into old habits is when the honeymoon is over.

So, for me, it's more behavioral and psychological than it is physical. That's the real battle, regardless.

As others have suggested, you're eating enough calories to maintain your weight.  Figure out your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) by using an online calculator and then cut that by 500 a day and you'll lose weight.  :D  I'm three years out and I'm still losing, but a lot slower now because my weight is so much less than it was when I first had surgery.
