I just had my surgery Nov 10 and have had severe problems with getting 32 oz fluid in and even 20 grams of protein in A. DAY! i know that's pretty bad. I vomit and have pain if I drink too much. I'm still on Liquids. I am VERY lactose intolerant and am pretty weak. I feel bloated most of the time and am walking.....but honestly,  this is the worst recovery I have EVER been thru..need lactose free drink suggestions and ALL SUGGESTIONS are appreciated!  Thank u!

Have you tried whey isolate in some lactose free drink, or even water?  it could help increase your protein intake.

Best of luck!

I don't want to buy any big containers, do you know of where I can get samples by mail?  I can't tolerate anything sweet either! This has been frustrating !

Isopure

Unjury chicken soup protein

Syntrax nectar fruit and tea protein powders mixed with water

Whey isolate protein powders are lactose free, or close. Mix with water, almond or cashew milk, or lactose-free milk such as Carb Master. If you can't tolerate whey isolate protein powder, use egg white protein powder (Jay Robb makes a line of these) or soy protein powder.

Are you in touch with your surgical team? Repeated vomiting and pain is something you should check out with them. Good luck!

Hi, My  surgeon is in MEXICO ,  so I'm just dealing with my Primary care Dr .  I ordered the Unjury, chicken flavored and go back to work next week on a part time basis. Right now I'm having one envelope of the 15 gr protein proti diet chicken broth/noodle soup, which has very little noodles in it. Everything makess me extremely bloated.

I couldn't tolerate sweet drinks after surgery, so I started mixing protein powder in chicken soup.  In fact, I'd mix protein powder into anything I could stir - sugar-free jello, sugar-free, fat-free pudding, Greek yogurt, cream soups, ricotta cheese, etc.  I was able to get my protein in even early out.

best of luck,

Carol

I am also lactose intolerant (somewhat) and found ISO 100 to be a good protein drink. Unfortunately, it's not super filling but it gets that protein in. It has whey isolate, no whey concentrate. I used it on my pre op diet and I'm only a few days post op so I'm not on protein drinks yet, but it has a great taste! I got the fudge brownie. Also heard the birthday cake is amazing. Good luck!

Chances are the vomiting is from dehydration.  You MUST get your liquids in.  Try other options - hot, cold, warm, tea, water, crystal light.. you must hydrate.  That's your number one job right now.  Sip all day, whether you want to or not.  Set a timer to remind yourself.

There are lots of options for protein shakes - you can get pea protein, hemp protein, soy protein, egg protein, as well as the whey protein.  If you're using whey now, try mixing it with water instead of milk.  Or almond milk instead of cow milk.  Or try the non-whey protein powders.

It's no wonder you're feeling horrible, dehydration will do that!

I ended up in the ER last week. Dehydration can really make you feel miserable. I was to the point of almost passing out several times a day. After three bags of IV solution with added vitamins, I felt significantly better.

I would strongly suggest you let your doctor know where you are in recovery. They may have suggestions that are much better than mine.

That said:

I was lactose intolerant prior to surgery, and have been using Lactaid "Fast Melts" (they dissolve in your mouth, rather than needing to be swallowed).  I have the Premiere Protein drinks, and haven't had trouble with those, even though they aren't lactose free. Each 11 oz. shake has 30 grams of protein.

The dietician gave us a list of lactose-free and gluten-free shakes and protein powders. These include: Allmax, Bariatric Fusion, Ensure High Protein, Isopure Zero Carb, Muscle Milk Light, Syntrax Nectar, and Yes Whey.  Your dietician may have other suggestions, or may have samples of these in their office.

My discharge instructions instruct me to call the office if I vomit more than twice in a day.

I hope you're feeling better soon!
