3 weeks post op. Dull ache/pain near biggest incision?

I had the VSG about 3 weeks ago (11-16-16). I am feeling pretty good however I started hurting a little more right around the area of my biggest incision (probably where they pulled my stomach out from).

I don't know if this could be just from healing or what but I feel like its more sore than it was last week. Did anyone else have this issue around week 3? It is sort of a dull ache/pain. Not like a shooting or stabbing pain. Thanks!

Pain can be from cut nerves or cut muscles.  If there is redness or heat, definitely call your surgeon.

Definitely no redness or heat. Everything looks great on the outside.

You can check with your surgeon to be sure, but I think he will tell you there is nothing to worry about.

I had that same sort of lingering pain for about three or four weeks at the incision just to the side of my bellybutton. The surgeon said that's the spot where he does the most complicated figure-eight suture, stitching up multiple layers of muscle and whatnot, so it's normal for it to be sore there for longer.

Luckily it went away by about the four week mark, a heating pad and the occasional tylenol helped when it was bad. But it was definitely annoying feeling as sore as if I'd done a hundred sit-ups that far past my surgery date!

Did the NP reply? According to ours, most patients have more soreness in the larger incision area because of the increased work to remove the stomach That being said you should watch out for things like worsening pain, fever, heat in the area, vomiting, and dehydration. My daughter started having pain in that area at about 4 weeks out. By 6 weeks she could not eat anymore and was very dehydrated. Hers was blood from a slow leak. She is healed now and doing great. But, our doc said if you have any unusual symptoms it is better to call/email to double check.

Best to set your mind at ease. We have enough changes going on the first few months after surgery. No reason to add worry to your stress!!

Thank you I did email the Np but no response yet. Did your daughter have any other symptoms or just pain?

Yes, she had additional symptoms - vomiting, fever, dehydration. The biggest one she had was that her ability to eat went backwards. Over about 2 days she went from being able to eat about  3 ounces of soft protein and fluids to almost everything she tried coming back up.

The doctor said that dull throbbing and soreness was normal at that particular site. But the additional symptoms made it dangerous. She should have called them earlier just to check things out. I'm glad you emailed them!
