I had the best experience! Treated like a Queen. I some nausea when I first woke up to go to the hospital. I think it was just nerves. My sister arrived and we were on our way to the hospital by 4:00AM. We talked and laughed and she took my mind off my fears. We arrived in record time (it takes 3 hours during the later hours of the day), but we were there in 50 minutes. I was supposed to be there by 5:30AM. They took me in after about 10 minutes , they were right on time. They took me into a room to change my clothes and they verified my info again. My surgeon came in to say and so did my Anesthiologist. The Aneth.. mixed a "cocktail", I remember looking at the clock and it was 7:29AM, as they wheeled me into surgery and don't remember anything else. I awoke up very peacefully and They were taking my vital signs and asking how I was feelings. I felt really good. I spent some time in recovery with other people, then was wheeled into a private room, where they let me sister sit with me. They brought her in a comfortable recliner that she could use as a bed. The pain medication was continuous, they kept asking if I had any from 1 to 10 (highest), I never got past a 2.
I kept getting up every 3 hours to walk around the hospital, at first with a walker, later only the IV pole. I met one of the ladies from my pre-op class and she too was doing really well. The following morning the doctors came in had me sign a bunch more papers, The xray dept. came to get me, They gave me this foul tasting dye and put me in front of this machine. I was negative for leaks! I get to go home! I got all kinds of shots of insulin (I hadn't had any, but the IV water also had sugar in it). They even gave me a flu and pneumonia shot.
I walked out of the hospital at 1:30 and I feel great. I haven't had any problems sipping water, I am able to get 24 ounces down in about 3 hours. They gave me a protein shake before I left and I drank about half of it. My sister and I stopped at Starbucks and I had an iced coffee with crème. I was told I could by the Bariatric doctor. Yeah! I can drink quite well, but in small sips. This experience was so much better than expected, I prayed and my prayers were answered.
