3 Weeks Post-Op

Feb 22, 2017

I can hardly believe it's been 3 weeks since my surgery.  It feels like yesterday.

I was prepared for the dreaded 3 week stall, so was pleasantly surprised to get on the scale this morning and see a 2.8 Ib loss.  I'm down 41.6 Ibs altogether, since the start of Optifast, and 18.4 Ibs in the 3 weeks since surgery.

I lost 23 Ibs on my 3 week pre-op Optifast diet, 9.8 Ibs week 1 Post-op, 6 Ibs week 2, and now 2.8 Ibs in week 3. I hope it won't always be small amounts of weight loss from here on in, but I am very happy that I lost anything at all this week as I didn't think I would, not after going on puree and increasing my calories in order to get my protein levels in.

As it turns out, I started getting major pain after eating my pureed food; about 2-3 hours after eating it would hit; a sharp, burning pain, like the food was hitting something raw and painful as it travelled through my system. Gas pains were awful too.  So after not quite a week of puree, I was told my body might just not be ready for the puree stage and to go back to the liquid diet.  Since going back the pain has gotten much better and is almost gone now.

I was also told to go for an ultrasound and xray, and have both of those today. The ultrasound will be at 12:45, and the xray after that.  I have to fast for 8 hours, no food or drink.  I thought I could rely on my biotene spray and woke up to use the washroom at 4:30 AM...almost in time for my fast.  I had a few minutes left to have a few sips of water to relieve my dry mouth, brushed my teeth and gargled, and went to fetch my biotene. It's gone.  It may have fallen behind my dresser, which I can't move on my own to check.  I'm so bummed out about it as my mouth is so dry. I'm wide awake from checking for the biotene, and hope I'll be able to go back to sleep for a few hours, at least.  Otherwise, the next 7 hours are going to be very long and unpleasant, as my mouth is as dry as sand.  I'll just have to keep rinsing it out.
