Surgery next week!

Dec 07, 2016

I am one week and a day into the pre-op diet. My surgery is next Wednesday! I am beyond excited to be doing this.

So, my surgery center has me on the full liquid diet for 2 weeks for pre-op. The first week it was OK to have 4 oz of lean meat a day, so I had a small chicken breast every day. It was heavenly. This is my first day to not have the meat, and I'm doing great. I sort of cheated with my chicken, by putting it on top of spinach and kale, but as far as I can tell many people are doing salads as part of the pre-op. I drizzled a teaspoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of vinegar over the salad. I think that's OK. But from here on out, no more chicken or lettuce.

We can have 0% plain greek yogurt, so I've added that to smoothies, or had a bowl of it with some splenda mixed in. Today I made a pot of chicken broth using "Better than Boiullion" and added some greek yogurt to that. It's super creamy. I can do this!

So, about my surgery. My insurance won't cover it so I'm goin to Mexico. BUT I found my surgeon through the Bariatric Center of Excellence website. There are only 4 surgeons in Mexico who are listed as surgeons of excellence or centers of excellence. I'm going with Dr. Manuel Garcia Garza in Monterrey. It's far from the cheapest option (costing a little under $9,000), but much much cheaper than doing the RNY here in the states without insurance (over $20,000).

So far on the pre-op diet I've lost 7.5 lbs.

I think that covers everything!
