ObesityHelp Updates And Info From The Crowne Plaza

October 2, 2013

Hello OH Friends!

Wow! I am already seeing some familiar faces from the ObesityHelp message boards (and past events) here at the Crowne Plaza Resort. Yay! The vibe has gone up a notch that's for sure!  OH Staff members Rusty and Kim have been here all day organizing things and talking to OH members and speakers both in person and on the phone.

As for me, I am on my last day of a mini-vacation and then it is back to work for me early in the morning.  It's been a beautiful day here in sunny California.  The temperature is just right and along with the excitement of the event, there is a warm breeze in the air.  I am sitting here poolside, surrounded by 35 beautiful, tall palm trees as I write this.  (Yes, I really did take the time to count them and that's just what I can see from where I am sitting! ) There are five little Cabanas on one end of the pool with two chairs and a table in each one. The swimming pools water temperature is just right and there is a jacuzzi over there that is calling my name.

In my last blog I shared a little about what you can expect here at and around the Crowne Plaza Anaheim Resort where the ObesityHelp Conference will be held in just a couple of days.  I have had a little more time to scout out the area and to experience the Crowne Plaza hotel living and thought I would share a few more tips and insights with you.

As I mentioned previously, each room has a Kuerig coffee machine. *UPDATE: I have just been informed that not every room has the Kuerig coffee machines yet!  But just in case yours does... Heads-up-if you don't like to use plain old California tap water for your coffee, (I don't)  you will need to bring or purchase bottles of water.  Having said that, when you check in, the hotel gives you two medium size bottles of water as a courtesy but in your room, they provide two larger bottles of VOSS water which will cost you $5 a bottle if you use them.  There are vending machines near the elevators where you can buy bottles of water for $1 but I elected to swing by Vons grocery store over on Chapman.  In hindsight, I could have simply walked across the street to Target for water but I wanted to get some fresh fruits and veggies and didn't think Target would have them.  Boy, was I wrong!

I am happy to report that the Target across the street also consists of a full grocery store!   So you can get fresh fruits and veggies, lunch meats, protein bars, and anything else you might want for your room.  They also have quite a bit of Disney memorabilia there as you might expect so close to Disneyland.

For those of you arriving early or staying after the ObesityHelp Conference, there is a free shuttle that takes you to Downtown Disney and Disneyland.  All you have to do is show the shuttle driver your room key to get on board. The shuttle starts at 7:10 AM and picks up and returns every 30 minutes until 1 AM.  You all know what to expect in Disneyland but what about in Downtown Disney?  There you will find the House Of Blues, Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, Rainforest Cafe, ESPN Zone,  AMC 12 Theatres, and plenty of shopping opportunities.

Your ObesityHelp Event Programs have been thoughtfully put together and are here waiting for you.  It is going to be a great event filled with fun, friendships, education and support and we can't wait to see you all soon!
