Post-op Liquid Diet

Hi Stephanie -- I hope your surgery went well.  Since we have same doc -- I'm on the say same process.

I asked the same question to the Bariatric nurse here at the hospital.  She said it gives you the best chance of healing w/o any incision leaks.  I think you are misunderstanding "full liquids."

I can have yogurt, grits, and mashed potatoes on the "full liquid" stage.

Call Deborah -- you should have met her in the hospital and she explain it better than I can.

I haven't missed eating at all and have had no desire for food -- so getting through this phase has not been an issue.

I had four weeks of full liquids. My full liquids didn't include stuff like yogurt or mashed potatoes or grits, either. I wasn't hungry on the full liquids but I was missing food that seemed a bit more real, if that makes sense. Fortunately I was doing well at my two week post-op check up and the surgeon gave me permission to do one more week of full liquids then move up to purees a week early. I have never been so excited to eat a couple spoonfuls of yogurt in my life.
