My preop diet was for 2 weeks, and I could not exceed 870 calories a day. I was required to have 3 protein shakes (premier protein from costco) and a 370 calorie meal. I had organic frozen meals (Amy's were my favorite) and whatever remaining calories I could have that day were vegetable snacks and salads. Calorie free salad dressing from Fred Meyers (Walden farms) were extremely helpful, as well as blending my protein shakes with sugar free syrups and ice to make different flavored "milk shakes".

I lost 17lbs during the two weeks of my preop diet

I had a 10 day liquid diet before hand and I lost 11 lbs. Post surgery I only had to do do liquids for 2 weeks. I'm not sure how much I lost as I don't own a scale, but at my month follow up I was down 22 from surgery.

My pre-op "diet" basically started June 16th.  My pre-op liquid diet started November 10th.  Had my VSG on November 24th.  I lost 55 lbs. before surgery and I'm down 72 lbs today as of today.  Couldn't be more happy!!!

I lost 95lbs pre op over several years. I did it by going low carb and tracking what I ate. We were allowed real food just 1000 calories on the two week pre op diet. The point is to get the liver to give up its glycogen stores and any low carb diet will do that. I don't know why so many programs insist on pre op liquid diets.
