3 weeks out and no appetite whatsoever

I am a year and a half out from surgery and I still feel this way about food. I actually have alarms set on my phone to remind myself that it is time to eat, since I have a very fast-paced, hectic job and it's easy to make excuses to skip meals since I'm so busy. I have not felt 'hungry' at all since I woke up after surgery, but I can tell when I legitimately need to fuel my body because I get shaky, have a hard time concentrating, and my hands and feet get cold faster than normal. I can still take pleasure out of eating a lovely meal, but I no longer have that 'bottomless pit' feeling where I want to eat anything and everything within reach all the time. I don't know if this is my new 'forever' normal, since I'm still relatively new compared to many of the long-time veterans on this site, but I'll take advantage of it as long as I can.

I wouldn't worry about this.  In fact, I'd suggest enjoying it while it lasts.  I'm three years post op, and my appetite is back in force.  I remember feeling "eh" about food at about 3 to 5 months post op, but it slowly came back.

Best wishes,

Carol

Three years out how much can you eat at a time? Now that your appetite is back, are you eating more? Do you graze?

Hi Anne,

I eat 3 or 4 meals per day. My meals consist of 4 ounces of dense protein eaten first, and lots of low-carb healthy veggies.  I probably eat 6 to 8 ounces at a meal.  Certainly not more than that, as I get uncomfortable if I do.

I don't graze. This is an important rule.  Grazing would do me in. I do cheat and/or snac****asionally. But I try to limit it to once or twice a week.

I am maintaining at my goal weight which was 160.  When I hit 165, I go back to weight loss mode - which is no cheats/snacks and only 3 meals a day.  When I am below 165, I will allow the snacks and cheats and the 4th meal when I feel the need to eat more.

I do get hungry about 2 hours after my meals, so I am fighting hunger most days.  Its not fun, but I really do like being healthy.  Its worth it.

best wishes,

Carol

It's been a year since my surgery, and I still don't feel hunger.  I hope it stays that way.  It makes things easier.

Be grateful for the lack of hunger. I had none for quite some time after surgery. Maybe a year or two. When it returned it was different - an overall body feeling of need for fuel and not stomach yelling to be stuffed with chips and dip.  So it likely will come back to some extent but for now take advantage and lose weight while its relatively easy. Lack of Ghrelin is the reason for lack of hunger and be glad for it. Diane S.

I'm pretty new, just over a week post-op... Looking forward to also enjoying food without the bottom less pitt feeling, or the need to shovel my face until all the food I can see is gone.
