Three prunes and 8 oz. of water can be magical.

I'm getting between 21 and 28 grams of fiber a day mostly through my main meals. I make a lot of turkey chili using black beans instead of kidney, as well as black bean soup and a spicy chicken taco dish that also uses black beans and corn. So as you can tell regularity hasn't been a problem.

Sounds awesome, P! I was doing more chili and stuff (love black beans), but trying to do keto and stay 20-30 net carbs/day, and beans just put me way over. They are on my list of things going on the back burner until maintenance,

Benefiber can plug you up if you don't get enough water. Better to eat some green leafy veggies. Or what I do is put a teaspoon of golden flax seed in my yogurt. Works well. Hubby puts ground chia seed in his shakes. GL. diane s

My body needs fiber, period. More than typical too- I shoot for 30-35 grams daily. I also eat the Fiberone cereal, and additionally routinely eat Fibergourmet Thinnables (crackers that are very high fiber). Benefiber, Metamucil, etc. never seemed to do a thing for me and I hated choking it down. After the first several weeks post-op I abandoned trying to keep carbs under 40 due to low blood sugar issues, so I switched to eating 30 grams at meals and 15 at snacks. (3 meals, 2-3 snacks). Most seem to do well with the lower carbs though.

Yes, the low carb works great for me. I was Type 2 diabetic before surgery, with medication having a rough time keeping my BS under 127.

I stopped medication (metformin) at the start of my 2-week pre-op liquid diet and never took it again. Since surgery and eating low carb, my last A1C was 5.4, and my daily BS stays around 95-97. I couldn't be more thrilled.

Those fibers constipate anyone. I eat 2 Akins bars a day...and if I eat a 3rd....it would back me up.

"Real" fiber from fruits and veggies will help you go to the bathroom. HOWEVER, I find that Magensium Oxide (not citrate) helps to keep me regular. I take 500 mg at night before I go to bed. I would recommend starting with a lower dose and see if it helps.

I get 200mg of magnesium a day in my bariatric vitamins, which is 50% of the RDA. I got some 200mg capsules and I'm starting off by taking one a day and see how that works.

It's VERY hard to OD on Magensium Oxide. It's not readily absorbed by the body.

After tons of reading, what I actually got was magnesium citrate.
