I am almost 18 months post-op and still have a problem with water.  Drinking from a watter bottle is the worst.  Everyone thinks I'm crazy and just don't want to drink water.  The only way I can drink small amounts is to have it Ice cold...and I mean tons of ice.  Then I can tolerate it.  Hope it gets better for you!

Water is painful for me too no matter how tiny the sips. I am now drinking crystal lite fruit punch and it's delicious and goes down much easier. Good luck, you are not alone!

Difficult for me too!!! Ugh.... I feel sooooo thirsty all the time. If I don't sip, I get pain too. I do drink the crystal light but its the same. I am 3 weeks post op myself. Good to know it will get better. My mind is taking it harder than my body though. Would love a cold drink to guzzle right now...

I'm about three weeks out and had a similar issue with water.  It has improved over time but I still try to belch after every sip.

Sometimes I screw up and try to drink within a half an hour of a meal.  I usually smile to myself when I realize I did it because I know the pain is coming and I'll need to ride it out.

But, it's gotten much better since I left the hospital, to the point it does not bother me any longer.

Cheers,

Mike

I was a huge water drinker pre-op (about 2-3 liters a day). My first two weeks out from surgery, I would fill my water bottle to the mark that my nut. suggested (750 ml) and work on that throughout the day. It was hard! It hurt! More often than not, I'd look over at my water bottle at 8pm and see that I still had 500 ml to go! Then, magically, close to the three week mark, I could take a whole mouthful of water! Never thought I'd be so grateful for that! Give it time; the feeling of somebody ripping your lungs out through your armpits when you drink will go away!

Water was hard for me at first, too. Hang in there. By about a year out I was able to chug it again just like pre-op. Now at 6 years out, I don't think about it at all.

Water was not my friend either. I drank a lot of room temp skim milk early out. Maybe try room temp water?

I've tried room temp water with no luck. I'll try doing the skim. Thanks for the suggestion.
