1 week musings....

Spice never bothered me, but tomato did early on.  Plus tomatoes are higher in carbs.  Go crazy with spices if your pouch will take it.... making something nasty taste somehow slightly less nasty is always a good goal.

Also regarding the chili beef, while I had issues digesting chopped ground beef early on (and sometimes still do, wah!) puree-ing it should be fine, so don't settle for ground turkey if you don't want to.

I'm routing for you ! I'm just 2 weeks ahead of ya! Just want to warn you of my chili experience . I had just 1/4 cup and had my only terrible experience from it, I know everyone's different but I just wanted to throw that out there ! For me, I only felt hunger a few times and I'm pretty sure the hunger I felt yesterday was actually acid from forgetting my Pepcid complete. Other than that I have not felt it or longed for eating things I shouldn't . I keep this feeling of not hungry , not full. I like it ! So I hope it stays this way. My family has been out to eat a few times now and I've not felt like I was missing out or anything with my sou*****w half of a peice of salmon .

My NUT gave me papers, that beginning with the pureed/mashable food stage encouraged the use of herbs and spices. The bigger the flavor, the less we want to eat. I've been using that theory when I cook for my family.

Last night, for example... I made them cheeseburgers. I added in onions, shredded cheese, seasoned salt, pepper and garlic powder. Typically, we used 1 lb of ground beef and a pound of ground turkey to make burgers for the 4 of us - no leftovers. I made 6 patties out of the 1 lbs. We have 1 left. Take the 2 I used to eat out of the equation... the 3 of them went from 1.5lbs of meat to less than 1 lb - and ate half a bag of seasoned fries, vs the full bag of regular fries the 3 of them used to share (I don't like those so I would have potato salad instead).

They all commented on the burgers... kids "weren't sure" about them. But my husband loved them and asked me to make them the same way every time. Of course, more "research" will be occurring...

If it works for you great.  People have groaned here about starting chili too soon.  As did a friend of mine, just goes to show we are all a little different.

So I have a question for you... being raised in Texas, when I say chili, that represents meat and chili powder (the really good stuff, not the cheap spice you buy at the grocery store), maybe an onion and bell pepper chopped pretty finely, and MAYBE some fresh tomatoes... obviously spices to make it where you want it flavor-wise

I don't put beans in my chili for sure.

So what was in your chili?

I definitely don't want to upset my new little pouch with something that might have too much bang this early on... maybe I'll just amke my chili at another time.

I had just read that it tastes good pureed, so I put it on my list LOL

It was a Wendy's small chili suggested by my bariatric nurse ... Urg it tasted so delicious and about 10 minutes later I started chilling and had to run to the toilet. It was coming out both ends and I felt horrid. I don't know what did it.

I'm with you. I can't really feel that my guts have been rearranged. I had one rough day and that was because my stupid drain was giving me abdominal muscle spasms whenever I moved.

Onward and upward, right?

If you're an oddball, then so am I!!

Almost 4 weeks out and no regrets. I keep waiting for it too. I was most nervous once I was wheeled into the room for surgery - had a couple seconds (literally) of OHMYGODTHISISIT! then I remember nothing for about 4-6 hours or so.

I'm really excited still about the changes I've seen already and can't wait to see more! I love outgrowing my clothes and not having a bra that fits me properly right now! I'm enjoying preparing my food and feeling good about the choices I'm making. I feel empowered, to be honest, that I can prepare dinner sometimes for the family but am not tempted by their food!

FYI - I did not pack up my winter clothes - I got rid of them! As I pulled them from my closet and dresser, they went to the thrift store immediately. I am NOT going back!

That's so awesome to hear!!!  Congratulations!

I have so many clothes (and bras, hahaha) that are smaller, I feel like it'll be FOREVER before I really get to go out and buy a bunch of new clothes... We'll see though.

I only thought I'd pack these away because... Well I dont know. I mean, they FIT me right now... I get that they won't fit me next year, and I'll likely pass them on then. Who knows, by the time I get done going through my clothes, I may change my mind! LOL
