They generally have a lot of sugar alcohols in them, which can cause havoc with our new anatomy.  Be wary and pay attention to how your body is reacting.

 Height: 5'7".  HW: 299, Program starting weight: 290, SW: 238, CW 138 - 12 pounds under goal!

Thanks, I will definitely keep an eye on them... 

I didn't even think about the sugar alcohols in them (I relate that to the chocolates for some reason only)... but low and behold these have plenty! I will severely limit them, and I'll keep an eye and see how I do as far as cravings go on them.

I truly regret not having it done earlier/sooner that said however, I perhaps wasn't mentally ready at that for the change of life and loss of my best friend--food.  Even though I've grieved somewhat for my best friend (since surgery) I was mentally prepared to "CHANGE MY LIFE" thus I figured out what my "trigger" foods were that made me a classic yo yo dieter, those were carbs and sugar, I eliminated them and am using stevia if I need a sweetener and pretty much any carbs (I do occasionally eat broccoli, zucchini, spinach) and have focused on meat/protein and water intake.  This has worked for me and allowed me to "retrain myself" on what my body needs to loose weight and keep it off.  NOT everyone is doing the same, some are just eating in "moderation" or "small portions" of the same stuff they used to eat, honestly that ISN'T the solution to "long term" weight loss.  EVERYONE that has this surgery will loose weight for the first year but if you don't take time to figure out how you became obese or what kept you obese and "change those things" you will not be successful in the long run.  I'm allowed my opinion, take it for what its worth--I feel if I rearranged my intestinal tract for the rest of my life, dag on it I better change what I'm eating and succeed, as this IS my last resort.  To date I've lost 161 lbs.  I am steadily loosing even though I've increased my intake by adding another protein shake, sure I plateau sometimes but everyone does, its just your body's way of saying "woah hold up a second".  I am sooooooo happy now, people tell me "oh your so tiny" really???  Is this the same girl/woman people used to snicker and say "be careful shes backing up" or "if she falls on you you'll be dead" and "omg look at that size of that axx" (It was 65" wide) yes I used to hear these remarks in public.  Its an amazing journey and all the advice in the world is here and in support groups on FB and in person but ITS YOUR JOURNEY, only you can decide for yourself what is best for you.  That said, remember what I said, "what is it that got/kept you obese" and change that by staying away from those trigger foods for good, its is a battle, definitely not easy but oh is it worth it!!!!

Even though I've had my share of complications, I'd still do it again in a heartbeat.  Like the others, I only wish I'd done it sooner.  Good luck on your journey, and see you on the Loser's Bench!

My RNY surgery was 12 years ago.  My ONLY regret is that I should have done it sooner!!!  RNY saved my life! I am thankful everyday!!!

My only regret is the amount of time I have lost out on by not being able to be active with my kids while they were growing up because of my being morbidly obese.  I'm 52 years old now and a grandma so now that I can be active with my grandkids I'm very thankful for that.  Don't be nervous or scared....  look forward to what opportunities lay ahead for you!  Before you know it, this will be behind you and you will look back and wonder where the time has gone and you will be moving around and become an active participant in your life again!  So very glad for having this tool to give me my life back!

Nope.  I even had a complication and was back in the hospital 1 week after surgery.  It's getting better and better all the time now.  I'll admit the first 3-4 weeks were hard, but just keep telling yourself, it DOES get better!  That damn sipping just about drove me crazy for the first month and I thought I had protein shakes that I was gonna like, but I developed an aversion to almost all of 'em.  The only thing that worked for awhile was chicken soup unjury and Nectar fruit flavor variety pack.  So, my advise is get a variety of different types of protein sample packs 'cause you really don't know till afterwards what's gonna work.  Then, relax - it's gonna be good!
