You take Metformin correct? Have you thought about that causing the hypoglycemia issues?

That is a big side effect of Metformin. Maybe you need a lower dose or a different kind of medication. I am not sure why you take it or if you still do, but it definitely something to look at.

I still take 500 mg once a day for Polycystic ovary syndrome.

In the past, I have ran very very low on 1000 mg per day and my endo had reduced me down to 500 mg per day.

The ER doc took me off of it. Waiting for my endo to get back from vacation.

We are the same point out -- actually have the same surgery date.

I was an insulin dependent diabetic (3x a day + boluses) with additional metformin (2000 mg. total per day). I was also DX'd with PCOS.

I now run low all the time (a1C of less than 4.8) -- fasting is usually between 65 and 80, 2-hour post prandial runs less than 95, and randoms run between 75 and 85. I ran hypo quite often, until I got it under control. My lowest recorded was in the high 30's.

I used my blood glucose monitor to strictly monitor my body's reactions -- and still use it to measure fasting and post prandial if there's any question that I am running low.

Carbs are never the answer for me. EVER. In fact, if I use carbs to bring myself up, it ends up biting me in the ass by dropping me even lower once I process those sugars. Whey protein is a special offender for me -- and any more than 1/4 c. of Halo Top can make me drop like a stone.

For me, it has to do with fats. I must eat plenty of fats with my proteins to maintain an even keel. Proteins can still cause blood sugar spikes -- fat makes food take longer to process and never causes me spikes. Additionally, fats increase my ability to absorb other nutrients and keeps my weight steady.

Thanks Kat. I got the glucometer and supplies last night. My weight with minimeals and carbs is up to 160.8 lbs. So in 4 days I was able to undo 2 weeks worth of hard diet and exercise PLUS gain some.

And this was doing 8 miles (about 19.5ksteps) and 20 flights of stairs. According 2 the fit bit..which we all know is inaccurate...I burned 2430 calories...so I shouldn't be packing it on like this. Not like I am couch surfing 24-7

Going 2 try small protein +fat meals this weekend.

This weekend I got a 5 mile hike...and a 4 mile run plus resistance in the pool. Lets see what happens

Unfortunately I don't think anyone can mentor you per se. The best thing is to keep posting on the menu thread...

I always say now that I'm in maintenance I am my own human experiment. We kind of have to figure out for ourselves what works. Not exactly the same as the weight loss phase.

I personally would try and stay off the metformin considering how severe your episode was. You might be fine if you stayed off if it.

Once I start eating for the day I need to eat every couple of hours. Sometimes every two. I kind of group my snacks together on the menu thread but they are spread out throughout the day.
