4 Days Post-op

May 29, 2010

Well, I made it! My surgery took place on Tuesday, May 25 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. I do not remember much of Tuesday after the surgery. Dr. Rupp did run into a few minor complications during the surgery. 1 - I had a small pancreatic tumor on my intestine. This had to be biopsied to determine if it was cancer before my roux-n-y could proceed. Thankfully, it was benign and Dr. Rupp removed the tumor prior to completing the gastric bypass. 2 - the lap stapler mis-fired during my procedure. Fortunately, the staple was not in a super-critical location and Dr. Rupp was able to proceed without having to open me up.

I came home from the hospital on Thursday, May 27. I have been up and walking quite a bit and have been tolerating my liquid diet. I am still taking some pain meds, but hope to wean off of those soon. I have been running a low grade fever since arriving home on Thursday. The high reading was 100.3 - we called the doc and they told me to take chewable or liquid Tylenol and to call back if the fever increased past 100.4. So far, it has not. I was fever free this morning (day 4) but now this afternoon, my temp is 99.3. I took some liquid generic kids Tylenol - that should do the trick. All incisions look good - no angry red marks.
