Gaining before surgery...

Dec 23, 2011

People keep posting about what if you gain weight before surgery, that when you are faced with a diet starting before surgery, your worst behavior may begin. Here is my response...

I gained so much before surgery that when I had my last appt before surgery wth the Dr about a month before, he said he wouldn't give me surgery, that maybe I wasn't in the right mind frame to do this. But luckily before I left, the Dr made me a deal that if I lost 10 Lbs in two weeks, I could still have it. Also I was not to gain a single Lb before surgery.

My brother who told me all along I shouldn't eat the way I was eating, didn't say I told you so. Instead he put it like this:

Lets say you were an organ transplant patient instead. Maybe you need a new liver, and while your waiting for one you kept drinking, smoking, and eating. Why should you get a new liver when there is so many more that deserved it?

I'm not saying you don't deserve it. I'm saying it's a good way of thinking about it, and a good warning. If people are not careful about these things who's to say your Dr won't tell you no either?
