My lap band surgery
Jan 18, 2010
I decided to have lap band this year, after a dear friend of mine had it done and was having amazing results. I honestly had been thinking about the surgery for about 5 years before I could afford it and finally do it. I made the decision for lap band because for me it suited the best, having never had surgery before I thought it would be the safest.
So I had it done September 3, 2009. Everything went great, and I got to see some of Ontario on top of it (i`ve never been outside the airport before so it was exciting). Everyone was great and the weight loss clinic was amazing. The pre-op diet I thought was going to kill me but I survived it drinking only those protien drinks and the occassional veggies, but I lost 20lbs on it. My pre weight was 303. Actually that number is what did it for me. Hitting over 300lbs for me ment I had to make a change.
Also for me being a RN I took a full 6 weeks off work and was happy with that choice because I needed to rest for like 3 weeks after and get my eating controlled. One thing though I didnt like the after diet where you progressed from liquids to solids. I got sick on the liquids and then moved from soft solids to full solids within a couple of days. But I was not having any problems with getting stuck or anything like that, I wasnt eating much but I was eating, and was happy.
Initally one month after surgery I lost 10lbs and was excited, and my eating was under control. But with my schedule I couldnt get the adjustment when I wanted and well started to gain after I hit the plateau. I was disappointed but I got over it and blamed it on many things that were going on in my life at the time, like work, and moving.
