6 Weeks Post Op

Dec 10, 2013

Well this has been a crazy journey so far.  When I first began the program I had to lose 16 pounds.  I figured yeah no problem I would lose them in no time.  What I didn't put into perspective was that I had already lost a lot of weight.  Before my divorce I weighed 350 pounds and when I started my journey my first weigh in I was at 275 and told I needed to lose 16 days before I could schedule my surgery.  My first weigh in broke my heart I gained 4 pounds now I needed to lose 20.  Ugh!!  After a couple of months I finally reached my goal.

Now to maintain it before surgery which I was able to do.  Surgery was scheduled for October 30th and I was both excited and scared at the same time.  I'd never had surgery let alone spent the night in the hospital so my nerves were crazy so was my blood pressure and sugar.  There were complications with the person before me so instead of 1 I didn't go in until 3:30 which didn't help.  I was so out of it I remember the nurse waking me up to tell me my mother would be in the following morning to see me.  The next thing I hear is that the Red Sox won the World Series.  I am a die hard fan and was so bummed to of missed the game but happy they one.  I'd had problems in the hospital with nausea and finally figured out it was the morphine so they gave me liquid vicadin.  Of course me not thinking of the whole sipping thing took a big gulp needless to say it came up.  All and all things went well I was admitted on Wednesday and discharged Saturday afternoon.

Being home not able to do much was a big adjustment for me.  I work a ton of hours and for me not to work was the hardest.  I did catch up on all my shows and watched a ton of movies.  After 2 1/2 weeks I was back to work not by choice but need.  It was hard but my boss was very understanding and I could leave early.  Being back to work is an adjustment I have to take my time to make sure I get my protein in and fluids.  I start stage 5 Monday and am excited.  I've had some problems recently with new foods I try.  After three attempts I'm able to keep ground pork down. Now ground chicken and turkey depends on the day.  I'm not sure if it is too dry or I'm eating to much or to quickly.  I've now been able to tell the warning signs and know when I need to run.

To date I have lost 27 pounds and am very proud of myself.  I'm also down two sizes and need to get some clothes.  I hear goodwill calling my name.  :)  I've found that I can't weigh myself everyday as I get depressed because I can see saw so much.  Now I weigh myself twice a week.

I tell myself daily not to dwell on today as tomorrow is a new day :)
