Can't seem to find an answer...

Apr 10, 2014

Hi there all of you at OH.  I had my RNY done in August, 2009.  My only complication was an ulcer about 3 months post op but it went away quickly after a round of Carafate.  I successfully lost all my weight...a total of 125 lbs...and have managed to maintain it.  About a year ago, I started having GERD which is really rare for RNY patients.  So I have been taking a PPI and only rarely seem to have a painful episode.  But starting in February of this year, I started to have a pain in my left rib cage.  Felt like a knife between my ribs, which is how my ulcer seemed in 2009. Doctor prescribed Carafate but to no avail.  After 6 weeks, Doc finally ordered CT scan to check for an internal hernia.  It was negative.  I then had an endoscopy which only showed gastritis, esophagitis and a hiatal hernia but no explanation for the pain.  I got to thinking...what if something is going on in my unused part of my stomach.  That cannot be accessed by a scope.  Cannot seem to get my surgeon to care.  My gastro doc put me on a new Rx today but seriously, has anyone else had a problem with this?  I so wish I had had the sleeve done, but it was not a covered surgery when I had mine.  This pain is driving me wild.  It hurts when I am hungry, it hurts when I eat, it hurts when I drink so that is why I think it is something outside the RNY pouch!  Help please.  Should I try to see a different surgeon?   All input much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
