Day Before Surgery.

Jun 26, 2014

So here I am, liquid diet and all, the day before my surgery. Two days ago I had to go in for both my info session and my pre-op physical with my doctor. The info session basically was a last minute crash course on the surgery, the post-op diet phases, and what to do leading up to the big day. I had gotten only a few hours of sleep the night before, so it was tough to pay attention, but I had a packet of info to take home to look through later. Next was my exam. Bunch of routine questions, then a CBC blood test. My hematocrit is finally within normal ranges, for the first time ever, so I felt good about that. Then I saw my white blood cell count. Normal range is between 5-11.5, and mine was at 12.9. My doc wanted me to come back in the next day for another test. Instant anxiety eruption. Scoured the web, looking for reasons my count could be up, found stress could be causing it, go figure! Went back for the test again, the results were back by the time I got home. 13.2. Doc said the levels were not elevated enough to stop the surgery though, so good luck on Friday! Huge sigh of relief. Finally started to feel like this was really happening.

Official last day of food for a few months consisted of oatmeal and greek yogurt for breakfast (like always), a bologna sandwich (I will not miss bologna), baked chicken breast with sauteed mushrooms and mashed potatoes, 3 rolls of sushi and about a dozen cherries. I was going to have a no-name steak instead of the chicken, but I was too scared to eat something hard to digest and full of fat, so I opted for the chicken instead. Today I've had two cups of sugarfree jello, some tea, a glass of oj, and a whole lot of water. It is difficult, I feel drained and just want to eat something, but I will be a good girl. Planning to have some beef broth for dinner... it sounds actually really damn good right about now. I remember doing my fasting 10 years ago, I got so sick of sweet things, I just wanted something salty and savory. So it's good that I have broths available this time around.

Thinking I should take the magnesium citrate pretty soon. Gotta clean out those bowels!

Next update when I get home from the hospital!
