What it's like.

Nov 24, 2013

Tomorrow I start a new leg of my journey has I have the RNY surgery. I have always been big. I remember weighing 106 lbs in second grade because we had to weigh in front of our class and our teacher put everyone's weight on the board. I played sports so even though I was overweight I was in pretty good shape. Then I graduated high school and developed some health issues and before I knew it I weighed 555 lbs at my heaviest. Luckily that was about 5 years ago. I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor in 2005 and developed diabetes in 2007. The pituitary tumor made me insulin resistant and getting my A1c under control has been a struggle. In April 2012 I went to the Mayo Clinic for just an overall health check up and found out that I was in decent shape but needed to lose significant weight quickly. After a move from Alabama to Arkansas for my wife's work we started the looking into bariatric surgery. On May 13th of this year I started my journey. Since then I have lost 64 pounds and I am down from 5 pant sizes. I actually just bought a pair of pants at Walmart which I haven't been able to do in over 20 years. So I have arrived to my surgery date. 11/25/2013 will be a major step in me reclaiming my life and being all that God wants me to be. It is hard to serve others when you can't hardly walk or you feel bad all the time. I know that this surgery is no magic bullet but instead is just another tool for you to go to work with everyday in the battle of the bulge. I have many health issues, this will fix a lot of them and make the others better. I view this as giving my wife and I a shot at a better life and who could ask for more than that. I really appreciate thus place and all of you because even though our stories and experiences may be different you still know, what it's like.
