London and More
Jul 27, 2013
I've been home for a week now, and I just realized that my last blog post talked about London, but I hadn't come back and to write anything as a follow-up. Instead, I posted on the forum about my experience. I figure I should put something here too.
London was a blast--crowded, hot (though not by ME standards), with tons to do. We stayed at a hotel that included breakfast in the room charge, so every day my girlfriend and I would trot on down to the restaurant and start our day right. We were able to order anything we liked off the menu--and it was a big menu. I typically got my skinny latte (it's probably my favorite way to bag 10g of protein), some kind of protein (the default was bacon, though I had smoked salmon and Greek yogurt too) and some kind of carb (that I would typically have only a few bites of). Yes, I left food on my plate. But I loved the variety and the flavors. I ate till I was full (or just starting to feel that way), and that was it. I was good to go.
We'd hit the road and log a ton of steps. Per my beloved Fitbit, we were always over 12,000 and one day we hit over 18,000. That's a lot of walking! We'd stop during the day. Usually, my friend would buy a sweet treat (a cupcake being one of her favorite snacks). I usually got water, though one time, I got Greek yogurt. I know the experts talk about the need to eat 3-4 meals a day. But I really struggle with that when I'm not hungry. With the temperature (I suspect), I really wasn't, and my energy was good. So I didn't eat just to eat. I waited till dinner.
We had a drink every night (cocktails or wine). Three nights, I had tapas style food (mini quiches, avocado salad, etc.). But we also went out for pizza (the restaurant printed the nutritional info on the menu--I chose the light Margarita and only ate 1/3 of it) and Mexican, and I ordered room service a couple of times. Long story short, I had tasty meals that I actually wanted to eat.
The end result? Four pounds lost. Five, if you count the pound that dropped off the day after I got home (should I credit my air travel?). Given how much fun we had, I think that was a pretty good deal.
