3 Months Post Op

Jan 09, 2012

Well it is 3 months post-op and time to do some reflection.  I missed 100 lbs by .2 pounds this morning.  The good news is that I will have another milestone date

The weight loss is great.   I've dropped 48 pounds since the surgery.  I'm down 24% of my TOTAL body weight as of today.  I'm 41% to my stretch goal of 180 and about 11 pounds away from my halfway point to my more realistic 200 lb goal.  Also, in a few days I'll be out of the 320s and the count down to Twoderville is on!  So many goals coming up for me on this journey.

I must say that it has been far easier than I imagined.  I like my diet right now and I'm getting enough protein in without frequent shakes.  I haven't found a food I wanted that I haven't been able to eat.  I do need to introduce more fruits and veg into the diet but for now I'm doing fine.

I'm now on 1/2 the blood pressure meds I was before and none of the diabetes meds.  I have been monitoring my blood pressure and it is steadily coming down.  I'll probably be off that one soon completely too.  My A1C was 5.8 a couple of weeks ago and that is better than I did with the drugs before surgery so I'm very happy about that.

Clothing is fitting me very differently.  I can wear some XLs and definitely have lots of room in most 2x shirts with some fabric give.  I've been losing from the top down more (but down 10" in pants so my stomach has been going the right direction too) so I need some extra in the waist area in my shirts.  My wife started to give me a good natured ribbing about my tight pants but then said "Oh I guess they aren't too tight...actually a little baggy".   I'm starting to get comments from people about my better appearance.  It feels good to be recognized for the work.

Exercise is going OK.  I won't say I'm jumping up and down to work out, but I do at least 2 and usually 4 vigerous activities a week.  That's not so bad from a confirmed sitter.  I even did deep water aerobics this weekend and loved it.  As I get thinner, I can see that I'll enjoy myself more, so I'm not putting too much pressure on.  Water Aerobics also burns a lot more cals than walking, so I'm probably doing as well as if I was working out every day on the treadmill.  Always room for improvement.  I've noticed that my rewards are skewing toward active things.  I'm also thinking about where I can walk when we are planning trips etc... So I think my attitude is moving the right direction too.  I also rewarded myself this weekend by getting more fish for my fish tank and a new betta tank.  Its nice to feel free from the food monkey that lived on my back before surgery.

I hope everyone has as trouble-free a recovery as I have had and much success.

Terry
