Gallbladder...

May 11, 2010

A lot has happened since i last wrote.  I had noticed i was loosing my appetite and not enjoying food. I also wasn't going to the bathroom normally.  Next thing i knew, on April 21 i started having small upper stomach pains and minor nausea. As time ticked throughout the day, it got worse and worse. By 8:45pm i called my surgeons office, and i was advised to go to the hospital and have a CT scan to make sure it was nothing involving the surgery.  So we headed to the local hospital.  We arrived at 9pm. We didn't get to a room till 1am. The ER doc told me i need to drink two 16 oz cups of contrast mixed with crystal light.  I advised him that i had gastric bypass and can't drink that much...PLUS i was in the hospital with stomach pain and nausea and couldn't keep anything down. He insisted and left the room.  He returned 2 hrs later to find i only drank some of the first cup and got mad at me. I kept trying to explain that my stomach is really small but he didn't seem to care.  he said "don't you think you have the wrong attitude about this. You need to drink it."  i immediately called my surgeons office again (it was 3am).  He told me to only drink one cup. So i did (little by little and with lots of gagging in between.)  When the nurse returns to check on me, she said i need the second cup too.  i said HELL NO!  she told me the CT Tech was mad and said i needed to drink it.  i said "I don't care if the CT Tech is mad.  she's not a doctor.  she's a tech.  i am not drinking it.  my doc told me i didn't have to.  i want to have my CT scan.  this is ridiculous.  i have been here since 9pm and it's now 5am."  Five min later the nurse came in saying they were coming to get me to have my CT scan.  =)  Well...the diagnoses was...i had gallstones.

I went to see my surgeon again a few days later.  at first i didn't want to go through another surgery, but after having a week of nausea and pain...i was like..."take that sucker out." I had my gallbladder taken out a week ago today.  i am feeling much better.  going to the bathroom normally too.  getting my appetite back.  i am still a bit sore though. anyhow, i am happy. =)

Just thought i should share that story!
