Initial Consultation

Mar 06, 2013

I met with Dr. Fielding and his nutritionist a couple of weeks ago and have to say I'm pretty excited! I was expecting a typical surgeon...pompous, self righteous, with a God complex...instead I was greeted by a friendly Aussie who himself had lapband a decade ago. He answered every question honestly, agreed the full bypass was extreme in my case and we settled on the lapband. There was an anesthesia student in the room who was friendly and obviously excited to be there.

Upon leaving he said to me, "I really want to say that I respect you for coming in to see me, I know...I KNOW...what it takes to admit you need help. I'm a specialist and couldn't do it alone, I know what it takes to walk in here. And I want you to know how proud of you you should be for this." It was a feeling of solidarity I didn't expect from a surgeon. Let alone the top surgeon in his field.

If you are in or can be in the NYC area for surgery, I encourage you to contact his team. I have a couple of months to wait due to insurance, so I will add more as I get closer. I've already started the vitamin regiment so that I'm used to it by surgery time. My next endeavor is to taste-test the various protein shakes. Please pray I like a few!!
