That sound was me falling off the wagon.So I allowed myself an "off-diet" day, with the very enabling thought that it may be the last time I could eat willy-nilly before my 2 week liquid diet and before my post-op life. Started with mozzarella sticks, cookies, crackers and ended with a whole loaf of Macaroni Grill bread. Felt like I woke with lead in my stomach and a HUGE headache all day long. Yep, it was carbacide. Making a blog of this so in the future if I have illusions again that I can eat carbs, I REALLY CAN'T!
It didn't help matters that I'd gone to my PCP for pre-op labs & physical and despite following my usual diet, had gained 3 lbs. I'd lost 27 in the past 6 months so those 3 of re-gain hit me as a blow. I'd had a suspicion over the past 2 weeks that I may have plateaued. Definitely time to change things up! Call me crazy, but this actually makes me look forward to the 2-week liquid diet. OMG that starts in 5 days!!!! I'm pretty stocked up - RTD proteins, protein powder, chicken broth, veggie soup puree, jello, V-8 (woo hoo, I can have 1 a day. Lucky me. ) Just gotta buy some sugar-free Popsicles and I'll be ready to face the torture that is a 2 week liquid fast. Ugh! It's worth it, it's worth it - gotta keep telling myself that.
Back on lean protein & protein drinks. Ooooops, forgot to take my lactaid tabs. Now got tummy rumbles and - TMI alert - some rectal incontinence. Fun! Maybe I'll start a business with a nutritionist to create a bariatric program specifically for lactose intolerants. It puzzles me that there aren't more threads on people who have LI before surgery but lots of people seem to develop a mild case post-op. Um, how about those who have REALLY bad intolerance? The balance for me is that whey isolate is much more readily available and less expensive but I've not tried soy protein isolate yet and have only seen it in powder form. I had a nutritionist tell me that whey isolate is lactose free and won't cause problems - um, my intestines contest that assertion.
