A new beginning

Oct 10, 2011

I wasn't an overweight kid or adolescent. I weighed 130 lbs when I became pregnant with my first child. As is the case for a lot of people I suppose, pregnancy and I got along very well. A little too well. I gained 80 lbs with my first pregnancy. Fast forward four children later and I've packed on a 120+ extra pounds from when I first became pregnant.  My youngest is 6 now so there's really no using the excuse, "I just had a baby." Over the years I've tried to lose weight. I was pretty successful in 2008 when I lost 66 lbs in 6 months using calorie counting and Alli but my husband and I went to Puerto Rico for our 10 year anniversary and it was only after I'd eaten my weight in delicious Puerto Rican food that I realized how much I had missed it. You see, food and me, we're BFF's.   3 years later and here I am, I am at my all-time heaviest weight of 253 lbs. I've tried to count calories and lose weight again but I always end up gaining it back. I work third shift in a hospital in my area and I go to nursing school during the day, so my metabolism is not what it used to be since I'm not getting near enough sleep.  After careful consideration and research I decided that a RNY would be the best option for me.  I'm in the process of getting all of my consults and testing out of the way and I'm hoping to have surgery in December during my winter break from school. I graduate in May and I would love nothing more than to walk across the stage a smaller, healthier me.
