3 year surgiversary!!!

Sep 07, 2010

Ok this last year has been a doozy for me....my husband deployed to Iraq in August of 2009.  The kids and I stayed in Oklahoma instead of moving out to NC because he was deploying, besides the fact that we owned our house in Oklahoma and we hadnt found one yet in NC.    The first part of the deployment went smoothly except for my son periodically acting out by getting into fights at school, but we dealt with that.  I kept pretty busy with league bowling and hanging out with my girlfriend as much as possible.

Christmas was a lil hard without Brian being home, it was our first Christmas in 18 years to not be together but I think the kids had the harder time with it than i did.  Just had a hard time getting into the groove of the holidays.  We had put our house up for sale but we werent getting any bites and so after 6 months just took it off the market.  I started looking at houses online for NC hoping to find that perfect house.  Come March I had found a few houses that looked interesting so I decided to make a trip to NC to go look at these houses.  It just so happened that the week that I was going, my husbands unit was sponsoring a weekend at Myrtle Beach, hotel and meals paid for...so we incorporated that into the trip as well....so we got to NC and looked at 7 houses and I had found the perfect one.  In a little town called Lillington, 2900 sq ft, built in 2006 and on 10.66 acres.  I made a bid on it, signed the paperwork, gave the ernest money and then headed to Myrtle Beach for the rest of the weekend with the kids.  Closing was going to be middle of April.  YEAH!!!

So the middle of April i had loaded up my truck with 2000 lbs of stuff and attached the boat and made another trip out to NC to close on my house.  All the way there on the drive my finance company was not returning my calls and I was starting to get worried.  I had also started to feel a little sick on the trip but just chalked it up to stress....so i finally get a call from someone low on the totem pole in the mortgage company telling me that my closing was not going to happen, that my broker hadnt even locked in my rate (which i told her to do a month prior) and she had not even applied for my loan yet.  Talk about a shocker...wondering what im going to do with all the stuff that I had loaded up, I was pretty pissed.  My realtor was the nicest person in the world, he let me store all the stuff in the back of the truck and the boat all at his house, even helped my unload the stuff.  Also cause he felt bad about me driving out there with nothing happening he paid for 3 nights at a hotel for me in Carolina Beach so i could relax.  Kuddos to them, they were the best.

So i headed back and got settled back into the everyday stuff in Oklahoma...i started feeling sick again but was sidetracked with the fact that the closing was actually going to happen on the 16th of may...I had so much to do with the house, painting, packing, cleaning, everything involved in moving out of a house and moving cross country as soon as school was out for the kids on the 26th.  My mom was coming out o9n the 19th to help with all last minute things and help with the drive cross country with my kids and all the crap that I have.  Gee was it alot of crap.

On May 14th I started feeling really sick and nothing was helping anymore so I went to the emergency room.  They were so helpful there (much sarcasm) they acted like i was having a heart attack, giving me nitro and all and not listening to a word i was saying and then realeased me with nothing solved.  The next day I went back to the emergency room again because the pain was getting worse.  The did an upper gi and still didnt come up with anything. This is where the fail safe diagnosis came in...You have a UTI!!!!  what the hell, i dont have a uti, that isnt where i was hurting...finally went straight to my family doc from the emergency room and she said she wanted to do another barium test but had to wait till the next day cause you cant do 2 in 24 hours...so i had to drink these two bottles of crap tasting stuff and went back in the next morning.  After coming home I talked to my husband and we were kind of waiting for the results of the test but by 3 hadnt heard anything so figured everything was ok and said good night to my husband.  3:30 the doctor called and said I needed to come to the hospital right away to have emergency surgery.  I had a perforated ulcer and it was leaking into my abdomen and probably had been doing so for over a month.  good thing i wasnt eating alot of food....probably the first time too...,

2:30 in the morning i wake up in ICU completely unaware of anything except that I had been completely cut open.  Did I mention that when I had had my gastric bypass they had done it laproscopically so i had almost no scars from that...go figure cause now, as my kids put it, I have my own zipper from top to bottom...oh yeah, and a food tube sticking out of me from my old stomach that they had to wake up.  nice.....so now im in the hospital and they are telling me they have no idea how long im going to be in and my kids are at home and I am having friends help take care of them as much as possible.  The hospital had sent a red cross message to my husband but his unit had denied him to come home.  so the hospital sent another red cross message saying that outcome of survival was unknown and they still denied him to come home.  The head nurse was in complete awe that they kept denying it.  he figured he would try one more time and the third time they agreed to let him come home for 10 days.  took him 3 more days to get home from iraq and also my mom arrived in the process.

I ended up healing so much faster than my doc had anticipated...i was very adimant in getting out of  the hospital.  I wasnt hardly using the morphine drip and the doc actually complained that i wasnt using it enough.  everything was going quickly.  after 10 days they released me with little instructions except to take it easy and no lifting at all for minimum 45 days.  my husband was approved to stay an additional 30 days to help out and he decided it was a perfect time for him to move me to NC since he was home and we needed the help.  Oh yeah, did I mention that while i was on the operating table my realtor called and left a message on my phone congratulating me on the ownership of my new home.  YEAH!!!  my doc said fine but she was going to set me up with a appointment in NC with a doctor there to take out my tube cause it was too early to take it out.  She did all that.  We made the trek across to NC with most of our stuff.  Got to NC and got settled in, end of June my husband returned back to Iraq.  I had the doctor appointment to take out the gtube and the doctor here basically told me no way in hell was she going to take it out.  my protein, iron, calcium, pottassium, and all vitiamins were all way below what they should be and she wasnt going to take out till they were back up and when my weight was back up to normal too...she said i was severly malnurited.  She ordered home health care and I have Jevity 2.1 shakes being delivered to the house and i have to do 5 feedings a day.  had another appointment a couple weeks ago and she said the numbers have gone up but not enough for her to remove the tube yet.  she told me to come back in the first week of october to see if they are back up.  I surely hope so cause i am totallhy sick of the tube.  It hurts everytime it moves.  it leaks, and it bleeds and all she could tell me is that it will only get worse before it gets better...how nice....so now i have had the tube in for almost 4 months and other than that im doing great.  Guess it could have been alot worse.

My husband is back from Iraq now and we are keeping busy with our new house and all.  we keep everything updated on Facebook....if you are interested you can find me and all that we are doing on facebook by searching for me under [email protected]
