Surgery is set/ My thoughts on Biggest Loser finale

Dec 15, 2009

Went to Dr. Kwon's yesterday for my final weigh in before my pre-op. I was down another 7.5 lbs! That was a huge surprise to me as I haven't been feeling like I'm digesting too well lately. I really kind of expected to have lost less. I'm down 23.5lbs overall since Sept. 22 and 17.5 in the last 4 weeks. I met with Dr. Kwon to go over everything leading up to my surgery. As of right now it looks like January 13th as long as approval from the insurance comes back. I am very excited, although for the first time , I feel a bit nervous too. I guess I never thought this day would actually come.

I know this is a life changing procedure, but its also one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. If you are considering having this surgery and you just happen to be reading this, pay attention. Be Prepared, and do your homework!!!!!! I didn't think it would be this hard. 3 months ago, I didn't realize how much work you had to do. I never realized the countless Dr. appointments, test and bloodwork that was involved. I figured I'd go in and a few weeks later be under the knife. YOU HAVE TO REALLY WANT THIS AND BE COMMITTED TO CHANGE!!!!!!!! My biggest regret to this point is that I have yet to take exercise seriously. Not that I dont want to, but I've been taking baby steps. Most of my life I was a very active an physically fit person. I have only been this seriously heavy the last 5 or 6 years. Its this laziness that I have had over that span of time that has contributed the most to my weight gain. I have a gym membership which I have been paying on for 9 months that never gets used. I have lost 23.5 lbs, solely by diet alone, imagine if I had been working out!!! The thing is, even with that small ammout of weight loss, I have noticed some loose skin creeping in. Thats as unattractive as being fat!!! BE READY TO COMMIT 100%!

One last thing, I watched the Biggest loser finale last week, and it really bothered me. There was a Dr. Huizenger on and he spoke to 2 contestants whose BMIs were over 70. He said to them "1 out of every 10 weight loss surgery for people your size ends in death" . Well 10 out of 10 people who don't do anything about their weight will end in death. Youre talking about a 90% success rate and trying to turn that into a negative! The choice is yours. This isn't for everybody. Neither is diet and exercise, but to succeed and live your life to the fullest, you had better be prepared to commit to all the above. To me that Dr sounded like a moron. This is a huge life saver. Not everyone can make that committment to lose 200 lbs with diet and exercise and not everyone has the added incentive of having world class dieticians, Dr's, trainers and training facilities at their disposal and still need the bonus of maybe winning $250000 t osave their lives.
