Spoke with S Kay today-1/7/04. She is getting better. Her breathing is much less labored. She is being fed by a tube directly in to her stomach and still can have no food or water by mouth. Ice chips today for the first time. She is a real trooper. It has been a difficult time to say the least. Perhaps home by the weekend. Her Mom is coming to help which will be good.

SKay still in hospital as of 1/4. She was reoperated on but still has a leak and they're hoping it will close on its own. No fluids, no food. If leak closes, may be home on 1/7. Hard time. Antibiotic made her sick and disoriented. Still difficulty sleeping.

As it turns out, the difficulty SKay was having was related to the surgery. She didn't have an abcess, she had fluid in her lungs that was making her cough. The fluid was due to a gastric leak and she was reoperated on (i believe she was opened up) in order to repair the leak. Hopefully she will recover swiftly now that the leak was repaired but they have all been through a lot. Nina

SKay went back in to the hospital yesterday, December 28th because of complications not related to the surgery- an abcess behind her lung probably due to coughing. She's doing well, on IV fluids and antibiotics. The pain meds are probably suppressing the coughing somewhat and the hospital bed keeps her elevated which helps coughing. Still not sleeping too well but doing fine. She sends best wishes. Nina (the 2nd angel)
