Question:
What about protein and water?

Can someone give me example of what you can eat so newly post-op and still get in your 60 grams of protein? The doctors say to get in at least 64 ounces of water a day...How is this possiible when you can't drink an hour before and an hour after meals? Won't drinking so much water stretch the pouch? — Angie B. (posted on October 29, 2001)

I am using Sci Fit Whey Protein mix as a shake several times a day to get 44g of protein; I figure I get the rest from my food even though each item is pretty feeble on its own. To get my water in, at 6 weeks post-op, here's what I do for my waking hours:
1 hour - drink water - can usually drink 1/2 liter
20 minutes - eat - stop when full, usually after 1/2 to 2/3 cup
40 minutes - do nothing
1 hour - drink water - etc.
This way, I am usually drinking 2-3 liters of water (sometimes I forget, or don't finish the 1/2 liter bottle) and eating 4 or 5 times a day, which keeps me between 500 and 600 calories. Must be working, because I am down 48 lbs at 6 weeks!

I tried not drinking during or close to meals and got dehydrated. So I said to heck with it. I will drink with meals, but just as little as I can stand. Now I seem to get enough water. And I don't do protein suppliments because of the taste and they are to expensive. I seem to be losing weight just fine.
