Question:
Does any know....of a sugar free/fat free yogurt
or have any suggestions of what type of yogurt to eat post op? I can only find fat free in the stores and don't know which one to use as they all have high grams of sugar in them. — chatterbox213704 (posted on October 23, 2002)

My doctor recommended yogurt sweetened with aspertame (sp?).... I found the
Kroger lite brand was fat free and had aspertame, it fit the bill and did
not cause any problems for me. Good luck!

I was confused by this at first. Turns out there's no such thing as
"sugar-free" yogurt, just yogurt without ADDED sugar. All yogurt
has sugars in it from the milk. What you want to look for is low-fat.

Okay..my favorite is Yoplait Light or Dannon Light 'n Fit CREAMY.

The only one I have found that has no added sugar is Blue Bunny. Not all
stores carry it. I love it, although my sister thinks it's too sweet.
Some stores only carry a few flavors, but if you can find them, there are
all kinds of great flavors. There's Banana Foster, Coconut Cream Pie, Key
Lime Pie and many others. I get them at Albertsons.

I to like the Blue Bunny I have only found it in strawberry. The only place
I have been able to find it is a super walmart's and not all of them have
it. I drive about 20 miles to one to be able to get it so I buy a couple
when I am there. Good luck..

I really like Fit and Light yogurt, it's available at your local Kroger
stores. IT seems to be a lot easier for me at least to find it compaired
to Blue Bunny. TONS of flavors and not much sugar with the exception of the
lactose.

In Canada, it would be Silhouette, by Yoplait. I've been using this for
years, and in fact my family likes it even better than I do. Fat free,
sugar free, sweetened with aspartame. And it comes in flavours like
butterscotch, field berries, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry,
cappuccino...yum!

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions!!!! I would love to try the
Blue Bunny yogurt but there is no store in my area that carries it. There
is a store in NC close to my family's place that sells BB so I will try
picking some up next time I am down that way. Bless ALL of you for
responding!!

Hi Kimberly,
My doctor suggested fat-free Dannon or Yoplait. For anyone looking for the
Bunny brands, the new Super-Walmart in our area carries a full line of
fat-free no-sugar-added yogurts, popsickles, and other frozen confections.
I had never tried the Blue Bunny brand before but I really like it and it
is not as expensive as Dannon or Yoplait. :-)

I have tried several brands of yogurt (didn't care for it pre-op) and I
prefer the Breyers Light. The other brands just don't do it for me. If you
like key lime pie, by all means, try the Breyers Light key lime!! It is
fantastic. I believe it has 12 grams of sugar per container compared to 46
grams with the "fruit on the bottom" kind. I also like their
peach and I'm not a big peach fan. Hope you find what you are looking for!!

Hello! I use Axelrod brand yogurt-it too is No Sugar Added-but sweetened
with Splenda. My favorite is Banana Creme and Blueberry, and actually
cherry vanilla too...I eat one of these a day usually. On average, they
have 90 calories and about 11-12 grams of sugar. I get these at PriceRite
in Rhode Island, but Axelrod may have a website. Good Luck!

And for us West-Coasters: Over at Albertson's, they carry their own brand,
that is No Sugar Added & Fat Free. They have an assortment of flavors
(Peach, Lemon, Blueberry, Cherry, Raspberry, Strawberry-Banana, Vanilla,
Strawberry). Average sugar is under 9 grams. I live on it.

Blue Bunny makes a sugar free yogurt called Lite85. I get it at Tom Thumb
(aka Safeway for those of you that have that store). I'm in Texas so I'm
not sure what areas might carry it but it is really good!

Yogurt does not come in sugar-free because there is natural dairy sugar in
it. The Lite varieties, such as Yoplait Lite or Dannon Lite & Fit, are
sweetened with fructose, which is a natural fruit sugar. Fructose and
natural dairy sugar (lactose), will be listed under the sugar grams and may
make it look like you can't have it, but what you are looking for is the
no-no sugars (i.e. sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, etc.)

I use the dannon fat free, it does have sugar, but the reason I eat it is
because it is so hight in protein. Even being hypoglycemic it is still
much lower than any of the frited ones most of which are too sweet tasting
for me.
