Question:
Hello friends. I need suggestions as to what to bring to eat while on vacation.

Hotel does not have refrig. does have microwave. We are going on vacation to Disneyland! Wow, I think I will fit on the rides! Am concerned as to what to bring. Protein bars will melt. Any suggestions as to what you did post-op while not at home. Quick, healthy snack items?? Thanks so much.    — lovebug2 (posted on June 16, 2003)

I plan on taking sealed packages of tuna and jerky. I make my own jerky with vinison but you can buy beef if you prefer. Both are high in protein also you might take some protein powder that you can mix with water. I'm sure you will gt many ideas. Have fun and enjoy!

You will love Disney we just went in March and stayed at the Paradise Pier Resort. If you are staying near the park there is a Food 4 Less grocery store about 2 miles away. I went there and purchased all my food for the week. I bought cheese and deli turkey along with fruit and nonfat milk. I also brought along my protein bars so when we were in the room I could eat those quickly. While at the park I was surprised to see that Disney now sells healthy snacks like fresh fruit and veggie trays with dip. I actually had quite few things I was able to eat while I was there that were healthy!!!! I am not sure how far post op you are.....but I am sure you will be able to find several things to eat. I really never thought much about food while I was there anyway since I was too busy enjoying ALL the rides!!!! Have fun.......Wendi Open RNY 9/19/02 down 132lbs

I would recommend stopping at a grocery store and purchasing an inexpensive cooler. You can fill it with ice from the hotel and keep cottage cheese and no-sugar added yogurt, cheese, deli meats, etc. Also, I don't know about you, but for me to drink water, it has to be cold, so that will keep your beverages cold as well.

Whenever we go on vacation, I buy some of the health food "cup of soup" type dinners where you just add hot water. I purchase chili soups and bean soups. But.... these types of hot meals may not be what you want in hot weather. I like the suggestion of buying the cheap cooler and adding ice. I would then buy skim milk mozzarella sticks, deli meats, fresh salads, and frozen food entrees that are high in protein that can be microwaved. And raisins and nuts always worked really well for me. Also, don't forget your water. At Disney World Florida, the stands will give you all the free ice & water you want. We took Crystal Light powder and added it to the free iced water and had lots to drink for free!
